Cheap coilovers are a false ecomony IMO.

The D2's have too stiff spring rates for the road and lots of reports of poor valving.

It really depends on which D2's they are. There are 3 standard options which basically dictate which base shocker you get and are basically standard Street, Track day and full race. A good D2's supplier should be able to offer you about 10 different spring loads for all 3 options.

These look great value but you really need to know which D2 coilover they are and what spring weight they are. I don't know enough about the weight you should have, but cant tell you for sure if you get either the trackday or the Full Race D2's you'll endup with serious back problems on the UK's crap roads.

I'd ask them if they are the blue ones or the purple ones. looking at the spring ratings they sould like the street coilovers which are a matalic blue and they are more comfortable than the Tein HR's.

The spring rates advertised on that auction are harder than the Tein HR spring rates for the z32.

Are they. I thought standard were 11 gk front and 6kg rear

I thought the HR's we 22 kg front and 13kg rear, but like i said I don't know enough about correct spring ratings. i know those HR's I've got on are like driving on solid struts.

i've been in a Supra IV with D2's and that was realy nice handling. solid without any roll, but not spine jarring.

I'm running the Nitron setup with 8kg front, 6Kg rear. I think Tein flex have a similar spring rate. IMHO you don't want to go any harder if the car will be used on the road

I agree. 8gk front , 6kg rear is what Im having.

The Tein HR's are 8kg front, 6kg rear.

Stock is around 2kg , Cant remember exact figures, have them writted down somewhere.

I've been in a zed with D2's and they were unsafe on the road IMO (unsure which sprin rates)...even with adjustments it was like they were constantly on the bumpstops, bouncing down the road and my arse was actually being jumped of the seat.

Nissan OEM (Varys slightly between US/JAP/EUROPE , TT and NA)

Front

2.8kg/mm (157 lb)

Rear

2.4kg/mm (134 lb)

The popular eibach springs are in the low 3kg range, but are progressive.

To go stiffer than an 8kg/6kg setup you want high quality, as the Dampner valving really affects how well the shock will handle the harshness of stiffer springs.

Also, with a stiffer chassis you can go for a stiffer setup without comprising as much ride quality.

Well I said I wasn't sure and best to check it out and if the HR's are 8kg and 6kg I would confirm not to go harder than that. It makes my back hurt just thinking of it.

What colour were the D2's on the car you drove Dave. Were they the metalic blue ones or the purple shocks, because the ones on the Supra were blue and really went well. + Dave (Mr dpmotorsport) recons the D2's are a great buget competion coilover and thinks they are pretty good. Granted he don't really deal with 300's, but besides the Porsches they do a lot of Pulsars, Evo's, Subby's and Skylines. He doesn't really rate Teins and thinks the Nitron's and is it (KW's?) about the best.

Pretty sure they were purple, and was told fronts were around 12kg (possibly 14) or so

Have heard good things about the Nitrons, seen the KW's but dont know anything about them. Im looking at the SPL coilovers myself, made by KTS in Japan.

I dont rate Teins, and there is a lot of bad press out there for them. The popular flex's for example really are just overpriced budget coilovers, in terms of spec and quality.

To be honest i think the Ground control coilover springs on the Koni Sport ajustable shocks is proberbly the best road set up you can get.

IMHO Koni's have been the best aftermarket suspension for ROAD use for years. They just seem to have all theyre spring rates and dampers spot on for UK roads

I had Koni adjustables (with eibach springs) on my Black TT, yeh good setup. I'd rate them slightly over the KYB's except for ease of adjustment (rears were a pain).

Slicktop is being built for a lot of track and competition work (Hill climb, Time trial, track days....etc), so coilovers a must.

It was my car that provided Dave with his D2 experience (glad you made it back in one piece, Dave :)). They are the purple ones, but I've had quite a bit of contact with Impulse Performance - Until I get the numbers off the shocks themselves, they can't be sure of the spring rates, but I was told at the time I bought them, that they were about 13kg/mm front and 8kg/mm rear! I did mention that I thought they were the track version, but they insisted that they hadn't, at the time of questioning, imported anything but the street version..........personally, if that is the case, I'd rather have my fingernails pulled out with pliers than take a ride in the track version!

What spring rates have you got with your Ground Control coilovers, Mark? I'm looking at replacing my set-up with the Ground Control/Kyb Agx one. How d'you find yours with the Konis? Especially when it comes to rough roads......... I'm not keen on making the same mistake with suspension again!!
