I am getting a "wasted" spark set-up made for the 300ZX as sold by Driftworks... Ben from Driftworks wants to know the ignition firing order on a ZX so he can make up a set for the ZX. Can anyone shed some light:) Thx Lee

Someone will correct me if i'm wrong, but i think it runs linear 1,2,3,4,5,6 down the banks.

Thanks!!, I changed the plugs from NGK 8's non iridium to NGK BKR8EIX iridiums and it made a good improvement... with the "wasted" set-up I should get the ultimate spark... IMO even if you change to Splitfire coilpacks you are still using 10 year old wiring loom and coilpack connectors which are weaknesses in the ignition spark...

tbh i dont think a wasted spark is needed unless your talking serious serious power, i would get the split fire coilpacks first and possible the hks ignition amp if needed but again your only talking after 600 bhp

KIrbz it's cheper than the Splitfire's and in theory should give better results because the ZX's troublesome coilpack connectors are taken outta the loop... I don't see why it's only good for a 600BHP car though... I think it is a good upgrade to have on any ZX running above average BHP... edk83 basically if Ben gets enough interest, this is a kit he will offer for sale on their site, at the moment the lengths of the leads and placement is something he wants me to think about... also having recently changed the spark plugs in a ZX the rear 2 are a pain, not a huge pain but still a pain!! with this set up the rear balance bar doesn't have to be removed in order to change the plugs... Ben actually gave me some measurements of the new coilpack box with this kit but I seem to have lost it!!

also remember you will need an ecu which can run a wasted spark system, the oem one will not run it

Are you sure on that? thought this would have no effect with the ECU?

not 100% but i know on the aem it has a setting to run a wasted spark system, also think the hks fcon can run the wasted spark system.

be worth checking into before spending your money lee

he may be assuming that your running an aftermarket ecu?

just been looking for you lee and yes i think the oem ecu can do it but ive been looking at the skyline board as they basically have the same firing system as the 300zx

take a look at this thread, Hugh is a guru when it comes to ecu's etc

Hope this helps

ps is the present system knackered or are you just looking to try something different?

been reading other threads on wasted spark setups and although there cheap there not as good as oem ones so i would stick with oem ones lee and save your money

My OEM one is fine, just wanted something better for reasonable cost...
