the other thing was, do you guys think it would be better if i saved a bit more and got a newer Z; the one i am considering is 1990 with 96,000 miles Uk car with service history. Is the condition of the car more important than its age?

Welcome! in general terms (and there are exceptions) UK cars have more rust, but are cheaper to insure. There are minor differences in spec, but nothing major. Buying on condition is definitley the best plan - just bear in mind that turbos don't last forever... so if they've not been replaced, they will probably be have to in the not too distant (saying that, some well maintained cars on here have hit 120k before needing new tubs).

Good luck!

what sort of cash have you got, what do you want out of the car, how old are you, have you got insurance qoutes on uk and jap??????

im upto 140 000 miles on original tubs (touches wood lol), mine is ok, got quite a good service history

i spent moer on the exterior than the engine and interior, like i said what do you want out of a car

incidently, mine will be up for sale in a few months hopefully, its uk

Thanks for the advice, well im 26 but i am going to get insured as a second driver due to my past...shall we say mistakes! insurance is just over £1000 for TPFt and about £1250 for fully comp (this is for a UK car, i havent got a quote for an import yet).

I want the car for weekend use only as i wont be able to afford to run it all the time. Want something with nice paintwork, pref black or blue (blue seems to be very rare) , saying that your white car looks very nice! possibly a bit flash for me though, not sure?! lol. leather seats and manual, 2+2 would be very useful and targa'a are always nice, i guess i want the whole spec! Its gotta be fast but ideally standard, with exception of wheels, exhaust and K&N. oh yeah i much prefer the original tail lights with the spongy spoiler that always seems to be the first thing that messes up! i just think it looks nicer....i think im going on to much, dont wanna bore you guys.

Heres the funny bit, i want all that at a low price approx £2000-£2500, i have seen some cars with this spec in my price range, but many others at alot more, they seem to be alot cheaper than normal at the moment? will i get what i pay for? or is a bargain possible, i guess thats down to luck. im not in a rush to buy so i guess that should help

Another question, if i did buy a newer ZX without the spoiler, is it possible to get one of the old spoilers put on?

Many thanks

Shop around for insurance....at 26 your should'nt be paying more than £600-£700 fully comp on a TT - Import or UK ! ...unless you have no or little NCB.

All UK cars are TT 2+2. Japs are available with every configuration.

All 2+2 are Targa, the Slicktop(hardtop) option is very rare and only available on the SWB.

Yep, would be easy enough to get a Stock spoiler refitted. There are fibreglass replicas's which would be better to fit than a old foam version.

Yeah mostly what he ^^^^^ said. If you want leather you'll probably have to have UK spec as I believe it was an option on jap specs. Look for corrosion on rear of the sills and rear arches particularly where it meets the bumper.

Have a poke around this site matey:

I'd say the newer and fewer miles covered by the zed you buy the better chance you have of getting a more maintaince free zed. Look for one thats got alot of reciept for recent work - cambelt, clutch, tyres etc tbh a long mot doesn't mean it has nesscearly been looked after.

I'm biased but the newer zed's tend to have much better paintwork than the older ones (there are exceptions) and have uprated things such as the fuel rail, electronic hicas and gearbox - can save you alot of money in the long run. If you want to come and have a poke round a newer zed my manual TT 2+2 is for sale, i'm not far from birmingham in wolverhampton -

i would go for a fresh import, because the underneath is like new

Yeah, just make sure you underseal it as soon as you can otherwise it won't be like that for very long lol!

You're lucky then Quavey. There's a higher percentage of UK cars with leather than jap specs as I believe it was an option.

Ivan

It was an option in both Japan and the UK i think. Leather was not standard as far as im aware, especially on earlier cars.

i would go for a jap zed, my uk TT had bodged seals and arches , i would t rush take your time, idealy buy one with good history, recent cambelt, new turbo s , a good test drive is essiential get up to speed check for smoke from exaust, smooth gear changes especially on auto box [major weak link on the zed] brakes etc seized calipers warped disc s a common problem.

Jap definately- all mine were imports- leather- genuine 50- 60K and looked as tho they had rolled out of the factory yesterday on top and underneath!!!

Limited to 112mph in Japan (easily delimited) so not thrashed, and if you want to know about the condition of a lot of UK cars ask AndyZ- I've stripped one with him and hes done lot- bodies absolutely full of it!

Came with Folding mirrors and sometimes some little extras- definately a good base for upgrading!

Regards

Dave
