Can't be arsed with long haul cattle class, so no far-away places this year. We're going on our Fjord Cruise in the Autumn I think, either that or Morocco. But have now booked up a week in Olu Deniz in Turkey 'The Blue Lagoon' at the beginning of May.

Just wondering if anyone else has been? Spoke to a couple of people who've known people that have gone and have commented on how nice it is. Just wondering if anyone from here has been?

Not been to Turkey before, about the only country in Europe I've not been to.

Was there 2 years ago Si. Or rather in Ovacik, about 4 K outside of it, and its really good. Great people, great prices.

Hisaronu is the kinda big town with all the usual stuff at night etc.

Worth booking the trip to the big outside market at Fethiye, on a Tuesday if I remember ? Usual haggling, but a firm no works wonders ! ;)

Just stick out your hand and a "Dolmus " will stop !! Sorta wee minibus type things, and if they are going in one direction and you are going the other way, no problems, handbrake turn and they are right with you !! :D Everywhere is about a quid !!

My daughter and I also did the Microlight Flight, twice in fact, fantastic view from 6000 feet up !!

Go and enjoy,

Thanks Alan. I have been looking at doing the paragliding there. Turkey is cheap by all accounts. They haven't joined the 'Euro' yet.

been to Turkey once, would never set foot in the place again.

Was there about 12 years ago, is ok not sure if I would go back, but hey it has probably changed a lot since I was there!

It's supposed to have one of the top 5 beaches in the world, the lagoon is a nature reserve too.

dont get me wrong the scenery was lovely (in the country) the town i was at was awful tbh

Its the people that did it for me, total, slimey *******s, kept touching me and making advances and i was with a bloke!! they have no respect for women and i was actually scared whilst i was there.

When i go away i want to feel safe, i did not even dare go into the bar from the outside seating area on my own.

It's no different in Egypt or similar. Just the way they are. They will just all want to marry you or trade you for Camels.

Nothing new there! Lots are!

I know what you mean though. Turkish men are slimey. I have seen how they are round women. Generalising a bit, but it's pretty general! LOL

The missus had no problems when we were there ?

Had the slimeballs at the market, sure, but I felt kinda sorry for them, coz they dont know her !!

We wouldnt hesitate to go back again. Did Egypt 2007, and it was a little the same, but its just the way it is. Would be a wee bit boring if every country was the same I suppose !

A wee bit of common sense and you will be allright.

I went to that very place back in the early 1990s before it really took of as a holiday destination.

My then GF and I had a great time (although all the comments from Sarah about their treatment of women are true). That said, the locals were friendly (then ;) ) and most shop keepers would invite you in for Turkish delight and apple tea...........or a large raki [sp?]. I do remember one night in Fethyie after a meal and plenty of wine, going into a silver-ware shop. The owner poured us both a raki and during the conversation, asked us to "take a parcel to his girlfriend in England." Needless to say, I sobered up very quickly, promised to return for the parcel next Friday and we hurried out of the place never to return!!

It was hot as feck too - over 50 degrees sometimes

The food was good and very cheap, but even 4-5 star accommodation was more basic than I was used to.

That was a long time ago so may have changed beyond recognition now......

Richard :smw:

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

Thanks Richard. I believe it's still a very small resort. Due to its classification as a nature reserve. So there's been almost no development. So still quietest. Don't really like resorts, but this is small and quiet which is nice.

Si I went to Turkey with Vic about 4 years ago, it was our first holiday together.

The hotel was 5* but their 5* compared to what I consider 5* was worlds apart, it was very basic, the food was terrible and not many people spoke English. It was boiling hot and we got great suntans but they were the only good things I remember about it.
