Can't decide whether to get the alloys refurbed or just get some new ones, I guessing the refurb would be cheaper but would they comoe up as nice as a new set??

Featured Replies

Depends what wheels you have and what you want. Refurbing a set of split rims isn't cheap, but it's cheaper than buying a new set of split rims, but nearly the same price as buying a cheap set of mono-block cast rims.

Depends what you want at the end of the day.

I had the 5 spokes refurbed on my old blue TT, and to be honest, I wish I spent the money towards new rims. Only worth it if you have very expensive wheels that you love and have to keep.

The car has racing Dynamics alloys on it at the moment so I don't know how much these were knew and whether they are worth refurbing. I quite like the look of them though and don't think I could go to 18's cause the ride is so harsh so don't know whether it would be worth changing them for another set of 17's

Does anyone know if they are 2 piece or 3 piece split rims??

When i had a look at them at the meet a few weeks past, they looked like, or very similar, to a set of Enkei 2 piece splits that a mate of mine had on a RX7. TBH no split rim from a company like enkei, rays, advan, blitz are going to be cheap wheels. To give you an example, the blitz 17 inch split rims i had on my old zed cost £550 A WHEEL without tyres, and they were no means an exotic wheel.

What needs doing on them that would require a refub mate, because they looked in good nick when i saw them!?!

They are indeed 2 peice split rims from Enkei.

I had the exact same rims in 18" form.

I had mine refurbed last year. This cost £300 in total including changing the centres from red to black.

I liked them a lot but they broke later in the year! So I ended up buying a whole different set of rims. This cost £575 I think.

Your ride is hard because of the Tein coilovers. 18" rims may possibly make the ride more harsh but you are unlikely to notice much difference. IMO.

Go for some 18" new rims and stick those ones up for sale on driftworks. I reckon this route will cost less than just getting the current ones refurbed!

I wish they were that good nick, think it was probs just because it was dark. The polished rim actually has some blemishes and there is paint flaking off the centres of a couple of them. Thats why I don't think I will get much 2nd hand. Think I will be staying with 17's either way now though cause I just forked out 400 quid for new tyres to get it through the MOT.

Where did you get yours refurbed mgh??

This is where I had mine done

wheel refurb

I had actually bent the lip on mine and they still only charged £300 for the lot.

I got £100 for my old wheels when I flogged them, and one of them had cracked clean through on the spokes!!!

People will pay good money for those 17"s that you have on driftworks.

Chris, pop down to Road Wheel, Tyre and Exhaust on Kings Road in Fleet. They do re furb at good prices, and from what ive seen the quality is v good. Or try Micheldever Tyres Nr winchester (otherside of basingstoke) who have always been very good.

I would be able to do the lips for you, but the paint flaking off the spokes is beyond my capability

I'm in wales now but the car is in Fleet still so that place should pick up the wheels...

What do you do to get the lip back up to spec then Nick??

1200 grade wet and dry, then i use Meguiars Metal Polish. Ill see if i can find a pic of my old wheels, but they were mirror finish, took me about a day to do them.
