SPEED CAMARAS

just spotted a van in middlesbrough and was wondering which traffic they are watching, oncoming or cars going the other way?

do they check cars which are USING 1 LANE OR DO THEY CHECK BOTH LANES????

Featured Replies

They can get cars in any lane and in any direction.

They generally work on flash photography and therefore it is illegal for them to take photos of oncoming traffic

all of them here take pictures of the back of cars

Its just that i came over a hump bridge at 40 and the van was facing me from the other side of the road(about 50 ft away)

i didnt have time to react until i passed the van(road was marked 30 on top of the bridge)

the bugger then swapped sides when i passed on my way back(hidden under a tree

he was still facing the same way)

which lanes was he watching?

I wouldn't be too sure about that, I was clocked by laser head on from a bridge on a motorway, really depends on which equipement they're using.

And Vascar does not use flash photography, check here for more info: www.ukspeedtraps.co.uk

Left: A lorry shown at 958 metres away, speed 95 km/h heading towards laser gun

Right: A car shown at 937 metres away, speed 114 km/h (- tells the operator that the

vehicle is going away from the laser gun) heading away from laser gun.

good site that, shit I read on here once about the vent holes, if closed then the camera unit has no camera -

One Web site reports that you can tell if a Gatso is in operation by the vent holes on the back. If the holes are open, "dark" then it's working and ready to take a picture. If they are closed, "light" then it is not in operation. This is untrue, these are not vents - they are, in fact, access ports for the case locks. If they have been left open, it means that someone has recently been fidling with the camera and has forgotten to secure them. So if the ports are open, it would suggest that there is a camera in the GATSO.

I think they do get cars coming towards them.

On the East Lancs a few weeks ago. There was a Police Transit van parked up in a layby which they had coned off. At the top of the rear doors there where two flaps that opened and inside were a lot of camera equipment. About 200metres before the van was a temp speedcamera sign a bit like road work signs that are on the tripod.

But I had a feeling that the police could tell your speed way before you reached the sign.

They very rarely use flash for mobile units, the laser units can get you head on or driving away and upto a mile away!

Group buy available on Laser Diffusers if your interested! (Snooper SLD920)

I did say a few months ago about gatso holes being simply for keys to open the case to access the film canister smile.gif

40 is only 3 points smile.gif and £40 fine

Only thing is, gatso's are on a fixed loop system, the grey box's you see on the side of the road also have a loop in the road which triggers them and they turn the radar off. I spent hours reading up on all the types, the only way to beat the Fines are GPS camera Locations which you can update daily by plugging into a phone line, the also you will need a Laser jammer fitted to the front and the rear of your car as they can get you either way! or just clone a car??

Was a good site that TT Tim ( http://www.ukspeedtraps.co.uk/ ), I do a shit load of driving and now I know how all the systems work, I think Ibest slow down

Bob,

How much for the Geodesy Plus?

http://www.snooper.co.uk/geodesygps.htm#new

And has anyone tried the new model, how's the new features...

First Beep: With this feature enabled you will be warned by one audible beep when the first indicator of the scale of ten is illuminated. This will bring the users attention that they are in range of an accident black spot.

Speed Sensitive: This feature sets the GEODESY® 's to remain the same when exceeding the speed limit, with full audio and visual alarm, however when travelling within the speed limit, the display still shows the warning but does not flash or make a sound.

Auto Ranging: Activating this feature will decrease the chosen range by 50% when the camera is in a 30mph or less zone, and by 30% in a speed zone between 31mph and 51mph, and full range when in a 51mph or more.
