The previous owner said that he had the cam belt changed and all the seal etc etc. so why would there still be an oil leak from the front pulleys?

I dont want to have a mechanic take everything apart just to find that its not the problem, then have to pay more to find the leak?

whats the cause of oil leaking here as ive just spent hours reading up on previous threads with the same problem.

im also getting oil leaking onto the nearside turbo causing it to smoke a little under the bonnet??? could the leak from the cam travel this far as the oil could splatter off the fan belts etc?

More than likely the rocker covers leaking. Intake covers have a rubber gasket, exhaust covers just use silicone sealant. The problem is usually caused by the silicone sealant on the exhaust covers drying up and shrinking with age.

If its not those and the leak is coming from the intake cams (assuming the seals have been replaced) then it could well be due to excessive wear on the outside of the intake cam sprocket (it runs inside the oil seal whereas the exhaust sprocket is completely outside). Only solution in this case would be to replace the intake sprockets. Have seen this a couple of times but it is rare....

Do the rocker covers first....

Ooh that all sounds awfully familiar.. I'll get 'round to fixing mine one of these days.

Driving the car? Don't get him started ffs :x:  ;)

While you're there, TB bypass and PCV valves and hoses replacement HIGHLY recommended..

Nah - mine hasn't moved in.. 4 years now - since I bought the MR2, basically.. I've been intending to fix it for ages now, but I never quite seem to get around to it.

I did finally get around to ordering replacement sprockets and a cambelt in October - now if they'd just turn up..

Opposite of NEA?

What do they cool down arent they needed?

They are there to prevent the throttle bodies freezing up on cold days, which aint gonna happen in this country so no, they are not needed...
