Hi everyone. I love my zed and provided i can pay to keep it running for 100 years i would drive it for 100 years^^ i also thought that this is a sensible investment as when it gets to classic car age 20-25 years it would be worth more. it seems that people are in a hurry to sell these and sell em cheap.... Even high spec ones..... whats going on...? is this because of the market crash or are they only going to kep falling and falling fast. i looked last year and a descent one would be 3-4 k and really good or high performance were going up to anything like 10k. this year a descent one seems to be 2-3 .

i know that as tax gets higher the interest for these big super cars will drop anyway but so soon and quick?

please let me know your thoughts and ideas

Regards

Damien

Its not just Z's the whole secondhand car market has fallen through the floor

The good Z's will always hold a good price anyway i think, its only the tired ones that are not going to do so well these days...

yeah well that was my initial thought however i have looked at 300zx for sale and they seem to do some low mileage ones cheap as chips now. i though i had a bargain when i got mine with 58k on the clock ^^ . allthough they dont provide loads of details so maybe there are more problems than mentioned..

i see that people who own supras are still holding on to there prices and refusing to get with the times and lower the cost. they still ask for 6k for a decent one and it aint change dmuch so far .......... reckon they will get sold at those prices now o.O

Low mileage Z's are few and far between really, all clocked before coming out of Japan !

58k eh, have you had the cambelt done yet cos its on a 60k service

Hi,

Most of the big engined Japanese performance stuff like 300ZX's and GTO's etc seem to be dropping value very quickly now!

Not great if you want to sell, but good if you're looking to buy!

Jez.

They are depreciating because they are OLD cars, its the same with any marque not just the zed, we look at them with a different approach as enthusiasts, however that does not deter from the fact that they are old and in many ways unreliable and costly to maintain.

We can live in hope that when the model becomes a rarity the prices will appreciate, putting the car into the price brackets of other respected classics, however with the influx coming over from Japan and other economical factors, in all honesty it is to be expected the price of 300s and other respected marques will heavily depreciate.

Hi,

As you say...They're just old Nissans to the general public and are therefore valued in the same way as any old Nissan model!

I only sold my Z32 recently, as I was fairly confident that I would be able to find another next year without too much trouble, and hopefully a later series 2/3 model for the same money or less too!

Cheerz,

Jez.

at the moment they are going through the transitional period between being classed as a cheap powerful machine and a respected historical piece of automotive genius.

Every classic car goes through this, so if we look after them, then in time we should see the benefits imho.

incidentally i think the stock ones in concourse condition will see the benefit.

TBH ive just bought one and i think its to do with a bit economic climate but more so peeps cant afford two cars and can buy a newer car for peanuts now

Im lucky ive got a works van so i can keep the zx for special days and use the van for daily use :(

i am thinking about getting one very soon, and was hoping to get one with low mileage and very good condition for under 5k(thx wow300 for mentioning clocking issue, i thought that was only polish problem), but there is one thing that keeps me from not buying them, and it is the age,

you cant do anything about it, you can look after the car, but still, with age there will always be something that needs replacing, repairing, that's life

and that is why f.ex person like me will probably go into something younger (r33 gtst) even if i like 300zx so very fu...in much :/

Gibbons there are some excellent examples out there you will just have to take your time and pay the price, but it will be worth it in the end

I reckon I'll hold on to mine for another 3 years then to make it a 20 year old classic :)

agreed, the zed is a phenomenal car and to be honest those who really love the car will appreciate that and maintain a classic and an investment.

At the moment the zed is a passing fancy, high performance, cheap and looks the part and does well to impress.

The 350z will be the next car to suffer the depreciation whilst in the meantime the zed will gain a reputation as a classic imho

to answer snowyg's answer unfortunately that is the next thing on my list. i done a service a bit early. been 4500 since last service so next service was gonna be 64k but i want my cambelt changed. dont know prices tho. looked at zed centre for guestimates which showed up at about 300 quid. so i will do that in 1300 miles. anybody know wsomewhere in essex that is fairly good price/service ? ive had no problems ( touch wood) except from an annoying squaky bonnet ( old bonnet stops decayed and squeaking ) but got replacement ones coming soon. i am gonna start looking at a rear bumber which go round my exhausts and 99 spec lights but i think ill leave the rest of the car standard.

It is a shame to see them falling so quickly. But such is life. The prices remained constant for a while, but in the last 2 years have taken a bit of a dive.

I shan't bother selling mine I don't think. Just isn't worth it really. When eventually, I do get the NSX, I'll either put the Z into storage or send it on its way to the Haynes Motor Museum who have an interest in putting it on show (although still owned by myself).

I still enjoy the car and I'm enjoying doing bits and pieces to it to improve it in anyway I can. So it'll still be about until the government tax it off the road.

Well.... when most have been broken for spares etc and only a few left then the prices will start to go up quite a bit i would imagine

They will, but I don't think that will happen for quite a while now. Z31s are still worth peanuts, sure, they aren't the car the Z32 is, but gives you an idea of trend.

IMHO, once the model has drifted away from turning into sheds and miserable looking 'Max'd up' looking kitted examples, then prices might stabilise.

They really held their prices well until all the cheap imports started flooding the market in about 2001. Prior to that you could have paid anything up to £16K for a tidy Zed regaurdless of age. 2000/2001 they dropped in price by about £5k which was the worst year. There on in they lose about £1K a year.

Z32s being imported now have almost dried up because there's no money in it anymore. I think Z32s are becoming a rarity in Japan now as well. Many have been scrapped. I think in the two years I was managing ships, I saw only 2 Z32s come in. More come in via Southampton, but even when I was down there, there were rarely any about. All tended to be Supras and Skylines. The rest was miserable crap like Nissan Figaros and horrid looking MPVs.

On a flip side though, UK spec ones are sometimes worth less than JDM models due to rot.

Ah yes, but a good UK car is always worth more than a good Jspec and many of the early Jspec imports are falling victim of the old tin worm. Neither if my Jspec cars are as good a condition as my UK car.
