HI - my recent purchase of TT UK Manual came with a twin powerflow exhaust system which i appreciate is good for performance but its just way too loud - the constant drone is doing my head in - i do like to hear a V6 roar but more when i do hard acceleration not while i'm sitting in traffic!

I need to source a quiet exhaust system and will then sell the system i have - how quiet was the original system?

Where should i go to source this as most systems are setup for sound! :o

Think most peeps go the other way on here lol, make it noisier. Standard system is pretty quiet, quieter than any aaftermarket ones you will get I'm sure. Might even be the cheapest route if you can get one 2nd hand that someones taken off!!

Congrats on the purchase BTW!!

Can never be too loud for me :D

Depends on the set up...

how many silencers does that powerflow system have?

is it fulll system or from cat backwards?

are the cats still there or bypassed?

upgraded manifolds/downpipes.

You could just buy the original middle section as yours prob has no silencers except for the rears, keep the powerflow ends which prob look far better than the original ones anyway. This would keep noise down.

but then again im not sure what your setup is at the mo. depneds how quiet you wanna be.

hi guys - thanks for comments - it is a full system de-cat - not sure about silencers - tihnk original system would be best best - what makes the noise though - is it lack of silencers, large rear pipes? ;)

would still like rear boxes to look good though - can i add nice ends onto the original system without too much noise - i'm a girlie cant u just tell by my posts - ha :nana2:

Damn keep the system and intimidate all the boys in their 1.6 saxos. haha

Noise can be all of those things cats reduce noise, bigger bore will increase noise, and the silencers are the big canister looking things on the end of your exhaust system they filter all the noise, some systems have silencers in the middle also, less of these and you get more noise. the size of the pipes doesnt really make the noise as they are just for show its the bore behind the pipe.

If you want to keep the ends so it looks good then just sell the middle section and find a used original middle section or new one. cant guarantee it will be quiter coz i havent seen what ya got.

You could go to your local kwik fit/tyre exhaust fitter garage and ask them whats going on underneath if you have a cat bypass etc and how to make it quiter then you can start from there. they can sometimes be helpful especially if your a girlie. I have no luck with that side of things sometimes have to bring along the missus and pretend its hers haha.

hee good ideas fellas - the kwik fit and swap!! I'm not a fan of kwik fit but have used them in the past to suss out stuff then ordered the part myself cheaper and got my local garage to sort it out - hee

when my car is next in for an endless list of fixes will get some photos taken of full system :nana2:

Slick pete has a stainless system for sale, it has no cats but has a bullet boxes etc which should dampen it down a bit.

I think wsnuk was buying it but worth a look if he still has it

Post up in the Wanted section for a swap for your system for a good condition stock setup, people will rip your arm off ;-)

Just be aware that a stock exhaust system will probably corrode quicker than a "proper" stainless system..

Mongoose - mmm - how loud though? hee

I know the original will corrode that is the compromise for me - ideally want full stainless system that is quiet! :D

mongoose is only slightly louder than stock, just sounds a lot nicer! is full stainless cat back system. available in both twin oval ends, or keeps the same quad ends but bigger!! think danny at DTA might do these?! :)

Deffo agreed. The mongoose system fits you requirements the best, espec if you go for the quad pipe option.

If Danny@DTA doesnt do them or cant get hold of them, theyre quiet free available over the net

Really? i never knew blue flame made pipes for the zed. Theyve got and awesome reputation in the bike world!

I have the same problem with mine, it needs the X mixer pipe in the middle after the cats to stop the drone inside the car, it is annoying, especially at night

is blue flame the name of the shop or brand?

- thanks so much for your tips guys - so glad i subscribed up to this forum! just awaiting me membership pack

sorry to be a twit but will the mongoose be ok with my system which has the cats removed?

Yep! Its a "from the cats back system"

I had blue flame fit a cat back system last year. the sevice was very good but it did take a few hours to fit.I still have cats fitted but it has a great sound.I did notice while at the garrage that they manufacture mongoose exhaust on site, probably why the exhaust's are so similar. At the time they said they could make decat pipes aswell.I'm sure if you ask them they could make a decat pipe with some sort of baffle in place of the cat box.Anyway it's just a thought and i don't know what that would do to the performance but might be worth a try.Blue flame are in skelmersdale the number is 01695 733100. give them a try you never know your luck.

I've got a scorpion exhaust on mine, it's definately not loud and emphasizes the V6 sound without being obtrusive
