Hi guys..

I've had these Goodridge braided brake hoses delivered, and apparently, they have the wrong ends on them  .. Apparently they should have the female collar on each end, rather than just the one end.. For fitting to the front brakes.

Can anyone 'in the know' confirm this?.. If it is going directly into the caliper, does it need the collar?

1990 UK TT MANUAL.

Sorry for poor quality pictures..

Thanks!!

Mine are the same, but I have a male-male adaptor which goes into the caliper.

From that picture it looks like the female end is not big enough to be retained by the clip and bracket on the chassis (looks like a Mitsubishi fitting, slightly smaller, seems to be a common mistake) the male end will fit direct to the caliper(check the over all line length lock to lock).

But it doesn’t end there, more importantly there are no line locators, there should be two on each of the front lines.

The locators are there to stop the line crimping when you’re turning and when the suspension is compressed also to stop the lines rubbing and chaffing on the linkage.

I know Goodridge where sending 300zx kits out like this ages ago, I would have thought they would have corrected them by now.

Sorry fella, but I would suggest you send them back.

If you give me your email I will sent a picture of what they should look like.

Gumball, get in touch directly to goodridge and not the company you bought them from. My best mate just bought some for his legacy and had a similar problem. There customer services are fantastic and they sent him out a correct set within 4 days.

I think the number is on the goodridge website

Good luck with trying to get in touch with Goodridge and getting them to sort this out in a reasonable time frame. I know for a fact that they are extremely under staffed at the moment (there is even talk of the company shutting up shop in the not too distant future) and after nearly three years of trying to get them to change their designs they apparently still can't get it right.

I have worked with them to change their existing design (ie, the hose you've got) to one which will actualy fit all Z32's. This entailed getting the end fittings correct, supplying the various adapters in the kit and also fitting the appropriate line locators on the fabricated hoses. From looking at your picture I can see that (a) the end fittings are incorrect, (b) you make no mention of any adapters supplied with the lines and © there are no line locators on the hoses - well done Goodridge!

As I have now given up hope that they will ever get it right I am working with another company, who is licensed by Goodridge to make their hoses, to have a kit manufactured which will fit all Z32's. It'll be a kit that runs from the inner arch directly to the caliper and has the appropriate line locators. This is a legal requirement and some MOT stations have been known to fail cars who have brake lines without the line locators. I am currently at the stage where I'm trying to collect sample brake lines (stock Nissan lines) which clearly show what end fittings are required and what size the line locators are. Once this has been collected it should be a matter of days until I can commercially sell these hoses. These will then be the ONLY "Goodridge" hoses available in the UK which are legal and fit EVERY Z32. I have invested far too much time and effort in trying to set this up to give up now so stay tuned! ETA - first few weeks of January 2008.

Nice one Dan, as per usual, you always seem to find a way of giving zed owners what they need!

There is an alternative, Brake Quip hoses, these can be supplied by an Australian company called Brake west.

You can find Brakewest on ebay, but if you don’t like ebay then you can order direct from there shop or they can be found on the Australian Skyline forum.

  • 3 weeks later...

just goes to show, I supplied both kits and yet one fits and one doesnt, very strange unless yours had a conector on the end already

That's exactly the problem with these goodridge hoses (direct from factory) - they will fit on some cars but not on others. And it's been a real PITA to get them to include the correct adapters, etc.

The hoses I'm working on are now about 2 weeks away from completion!

Hey,

Could you make a post on when you're completed as i'd be interested

is it possible that the difference is due to uk and import calipers, they``re different arent they?

No, only different is v early models had aluminium calipers but were soon changed to cast iron. Still have the same connections though...

ok, im presuming that some of the calipers have male connectors coming out of the calipers to accept the female union, and yet some dont, is this adaptor separate from the caliper do you know?

So Goodridge have had a consitency problem...certain batches with incorrect fittings ?

They are dfferent as Andy says...

My car has one of each type of caliper on (one cast and one aluminium )

and still i had no fitting issues ( other than the support mounts )

no, that doesnt happen really

I cant recall seeing a difference in brake line fittings on any calipers, I've got 3 or 4 sets lieing around in the garage, will check tomorrow if any I have are different.

No they're all IDENTICAL in terms of fitting of the brake line.....

Looks that way tbh

so it is a goodridge inconsistency ?

Yes and no.

Goodridge only every fabricated the lines with one type of ending. It is Nissan who has changed the endings on the car side. Some are male, some are female, some are convex, some are concave ... go figure. I have it on good authority (straight from a Nissan engineer over in Japan) that they (still) tend to put connectors on the car that they can readily get at the time of production. So there must have been occassions that one type of connector wasn't available so they used a different type.

As far as I'm aware all calliper ends are the same.
