I acquired a Newer model ASCD cruise control unit from a wreck today part number 18930-40P14, and was wondering how would i go about installing it into my 89 model zed that already has the series 1 ASCD unit. From what ive read the connectors dont match as the newer ASCD is a 32bit ECU whereas my current series 1 ASCD is a 16bit. Can anyone answer this please???

Why did you upgrade it? What's the differences? Does this have anything to do with trying to fit the CC stalk (from later models with airbag) over the CC buttons that come on the steering wheels of early models?

Im talking about these units funky,

 

Series 1:

ASCD 89 > 92

 

Series 2:

92+ ASCD

 

well my goal is to upgrade everything on my zed, that i can find that was upgraded. No its not the stalk with airbag but i will be doing that eventually, so expect questions on that. No im talking about the cruise control ECU in the ECU bay looks like this;

The second one with the green circuit board. The orange board is the pre 92 model Cruise Control computer. Its a 16bit processor for the cruise control, whereas the 92+ computer is a 32bit processor.

 

From what the guys on the aus300zx forums had told me the upgraded cruise control computer was installed by nissan because The series one ecu is a 16 bit setup and has a 16 pin connector, the series two is 32 bit and has a 20 pin connector, hence the different plugs.

 

Im guessing now in order for me to add the new ASCD in ill need to upgrade my ECU to a 93+ onwards ECU which i do plan to do one day, if im lucky ill try anf get a 2000spec ECU but that will proabbyl be a long shot. But even a 95 or 96 ECU will be fine.

Yeh, i see 16bit vs 32bit, but as for the added requirement/benefit of the newer ASCD I don't see.

 

The 32bit Engine ECU was'nt fitted until 1995. Series 1 and series 2 Engine ECU's are identical. If the new ASCD ECU was fitted in 92 then it cant be be to do with the 95 onwards 32bit Engine ECU.

Correct. Its all to do with the OBDII change over, no benefit for a 32bit stock ECU.

Ok so it must be a connector swap then?? I know there probably isnt any difference in cruise control function with the 32bit computer but i still want to add the unit and thus im just researching atm. Ill eventually figure it out. Like i said ill be upgrading my ECU at some point so that might mean new wiring harness etc etc. And im committed to OEM parts for now.
