A friend of mine is looking at buying a z and was wondering if he will be able to convert it to run on lpg,i told him i have not got a clue if anyone has then please help

Yes it can be done, just lose the space in the boot cos of tank. Thinking about getting mine done so keep us informed if he goes ahead

lisaf is right - it can be done-

I have emailed a couple of companies up my way for a quote and have never heard anything back from them.

Let us all know what the outcome is.

So with the price of super these days it will pay for itself in about 3 months. hmmm

remember thye do even less to the gallon on LPG, so youve got to take into account a 30 ro 40 %increase in fuel usage... its suddenly not as attractive as you first thought. The lpg installers often neglect to tell this fact! (Also on average about 15% down on power!)

Agreed but a 30-40%increase in usage will be offset by the MASSIVE differential in price, and how often do you HONESTLY need to use full power anyway?

Ye if you need the power just switch over to petrol, lol

Only problem with that is, if more and more people convert the government will suddenly stick a load of tax on. Remember Diesel USED to be cheaper than petrol. ;)

having lpg on my rangie i think this fuel usage % is a little high as i dont really find it that less,i think the fact you have to bury the pedal lower to achieve the same power might be the contributing factor even thou lpg has a higher octane than petrol but it still wins hands down because of the price

This is not actually correct. LPG is 114 ron fuel so you will actually get more power than you would get from 97-99 super unleaded..

When LPG was in it's infancy cars did lose power, but this was because LPG is a slower burning fuel and so needs a different ignition curve. Because old LPG systems couldnt interface with the ecu there had to be a compramise ignition curve between the 2 fuels hence the poor power and rough running...

That is all a thing of the past with a modern digital multipoint system... you would be hard pushed to get one for less than 2k though... I would expect any system for £950 to be of the old type, and wont do your zed any good at all.

Well then we still win as petrol will be relatively cheaper.

Except that my 3 litre diesel was doing over 47mpg last night !

not 100 % on this one but im sure ive read somewhere that in order to do it correctly on a zed you would have to through a shed load of money at it ill try and find the link.do you have to chip it and run 2 seperate maps ?

Only going of experience... Drove an LPG it was slower on petrol and used more fuel.... All im saying it offsets the "amazing benefit"

Which to be fair isnt as great as people say it is, doesnt always do the engine alot of good an 2k is a hell of alot of petrol!

And as soon sa everyone has converted to lpg it will go up in price anyway so the conversion is pointless.

Of course people use full power regularly, why buy a 300bhp car to not use thw power? Honestly, if your going to "not use full power" go and buy a micra.

Even the few people that use z's as a daily drive dont do many miles, most of us have them as second cars, weekend toys or projects, so what if they are bad on fuel we can all have a bit of a moan about it when it increases in price a few pence, its not somthing we can relaly do anything about, it happens. But its the same for all cars, it now costs me an extra £4 a week to drive to work and an extra £2 or so to fill my zx up. If you want to quibble over a couple of quid in running costs go and buy a prius

I had an encounter with LPI Zed in our workshop a few weeks ago...it actually drove very good.

if you convert a car to drive on LPI only and have it remapped for this setup it will be faster then the same car on petrol.
