When used on a Doolz set-up is the actual use in the pipework of a dummy AFM of any importance? because of the lack of space on my car I can fit the 2nd filter but only if I don't use the dummy AFM... the fact it serves no purpose other than maintaining equal lengh of the pipework makes me think it is not essential.... can someone confirm? Thx Lee

Damn, gonna have to do some extra work :headvswal

Isn't that always the case lol

Yeah but sometimes you think you're totally covered!! another thing is the Z1 filters are quite big which doesn't help!! :D

How come there's no room by the way? Whats in the way?

Standing in front of the car... the left side filter cannot fit due to the installation of an aftermarket oil cooler, also the aircon cannister looks like it will be in the way, but I won't know that until I get the oil cooler outta the way...

Have you got a front mount?

No just got larger intercoolers in the stock location....

Was gonna say, if you did then you could move the oil cooler to the stock ic position....

I will haev to move the oil cooler but what's annoying is that it has the nice braided lines with the blue/red couplers which will al have to re-routed now, even then it's gonna be tight.... I am tempted to remove the aircon but not sure I want to that!!

why are equal lengths so important ?

Z1 also say that you should maintain equal length... their responmse was, "it is recommended to use the dummy mas so that way the intake will be symmetrical"

Andy I have now manged to twist the oil cooler pipes out of the way, but I think thebest solution is to move the oil cooler back to the stock location... in the end the aircon did not have to be removed thankfully!!

Just curious, as I am not sure what difference it could make with regards what the tubby will suck in, if its a straight pipe and its only a short difference it should make little to no difference, I have been running un equal lengths on standard intake for 6months now although it is not with this setup its run fine at a constant 15psi, although with standard afm this may have bugger all to do with regards the dummy maf

A small amount of turbulence is caused when the cold air passes through a MAF, as Lee is using this set up in order to achieve higher figures than a normal MAF setup, it's important that the amount and speed of air from both pipes is identicle as possible to each other, otherwise the SAFC (i think he is using) will struggle to adjust correctly enough for both his power gains and smoothness.

Yeah i'm using a SAFC, and yes the above sounds like the proper answer that Z1 should have given!! :D

I'm not sure what your exact set up is bu, If you are going to use both the AFM's and link up via an AFC then ignore the bit below.

If you are using 2 AFM's but one is a dummy then you may want to think about putting an additional balance bar between the pipes that connect to the TB's.

This will allow a smoother idle and low rps stability.

I'm using one AFM and the second as a dummy, I wish i'd have went for the JWT plus the balance pipe in hindsight as it saves space etc, the advantage with the Doolz set-up is that the balance bar isn't needed and it does look/flow better than the JWT...

Right I see where your coming from now, I don't see it making a huge difference but if thats the advice given I would follow it

As Lees present MAF is maxing out, it makes all the difference to ensure it does what he wants.

What exactly have you got or using ? a pic would be good.

Just an off set standard filter at the mo, but going to a pair of t28's and more likely than not twin intakes one maf on one intake as above, hence curiosity

Ah gotcha, Lee is using the SAFC to compensate for the one MAF only reading half the intake air, so it's important in this case everthing is equal on either side to work right, this is smply cos he is maxing out his present MAF.

your not having this problem so hence it won't matter in what you have or doing for the future unless your running around 480ish bhp.

cheers

was hoping to get around 500, and not having a central intake would make fmic easier to sort out, still not not sure if z1 tubs which are a direct swap and claim 500 would be enough or if I should stick with first plan and go for 2 t28bb core
