seized water pump

well, my water pump has finally given up and snapped my fan belt. i've been told that to do the pump the cam belt will need to be done at the same time. is this the case or can i simply replace the pump?

    If your pump has gone, then while replacing it, it might as well be worth doing the cambelt at the same time.

    Its pretty much all the same labour, so for about £30 for a new belt it would be silly not to replace it at same time
