Our stupid governement is considering, again, making drivers of big engined cars pay £1000 in road tax. Putting the cost of buying a £60,000 Range Rover up is fine, because the buyer will not notice.

 

The reports I have heard before simply said if the engine did not have a Co2 rating it would go on size, and 3000cc engines would get clobbered.

 

If this happenes there will be many cars that simply become worthless, who will buy them? Who can afford £1000 for a few thousand miles a year? Also, all people who sell parts, service, or import them will be out of business. Even the insurance companies will notice a drop in revenue.

 

If we sit back and let this happen the politians will do it. A united front of all forums, owners/drivers clubs etc may help.

 

But it has to start somewhere. I for one can not afford to throw my 300 away, but neither wil I pay £1000 a year to tax it, nor should I have to.

it doesnt work like that im a truck driver and ive done this fuel protest thing we did it down the m1 and round the m25 the *******s did us for obstruction!!!we slowed all traffic down but we kept it moving but they still did the front few :( so lets say you have NOT got the right to protest peacfully in this country only if you are ethnic minority do you get heard!! :mad:

we also did a pertition dont want to dampen yer hearts but there are far more truckers in this country than anyone and if you got it a truck brung it ;) the pertition didnt work either neither did the farmers blocking the refinery :( sorry all but ive been there

No-one should have to pay that much road tax, but to be honest it looks like it's happening in every part of the world. You guys have had it good for a long time, but something has to change soon. the greens and tree lovers are going to make sure of that.

 

I don't think the UK government will be as hard as £1000 though

There may be a bright side to it for you guys :x: yes, we pay 1200euro (around £800) for 3ltr, and it's been like that for years. But it will get rid of all the sheds that are about. 300's, supras etc. will become a rarer sight, and the ones you will see will more likely be well cared for and maintained. And if you only drive your z for the summer then maybe you can tax it for a few months like we can do over here, (it's the only way I can afford it)

 

it will put a stop to all the cheap z's being sold and passed on time after time, as anyone buying will be a lot more picky knowing what road tax will cost them.

The ferrari owners club did a calculation about how much CO2 the total world-wide fleet makes (most are weekend only cars) and it was absolutely tiny less than 1 tenth of a percent compared to the hoards of school run golfs and focus' out there. Thats where the 'problem' (if there even is one) is.

 

I hate the way most of the 'green' debate has become a class war in disguise.

Yeah so I have 4 cars and on the face of it I am a green nightmare:-

 

5.5 litre V12, 3 Litre V6 Twin turbo, 3 Litre straight 6 and a rotary engined 1.3 but..........

 

I do 100% carbon offset through the shell drivers club and the first two cars are used probably for about only 3,000 miles per year so do I deserve clobbering with 1,000 pound car tax on each?

If this EVER happens I will drive without tax, I work hard for what I have and I wont let David Cameron or anyone else take it away from me! I would of course continue to pay insurance and have my car MOT'd, but pay £1000 per yeah, they can shove that up their green arses!

Ye lets organise a massive 5mph crawl in all cities, from 2pm till 6pm (i hate traffic jams!) on a monday.. lol

 

I doubt you'd even get up to 5mph in London between 2pm and 6pm on a week day :)

I know this won't be popular with everyone, but for me the best fix would be charge a rate based on the miles you do. Higher emissions/engine size, then the more you get charged per mile. The only reason I say that is because I do sod all miles in my zed and loads in my other car, so getting stung a grand for doing pittance mileage a year really hits me in the goolies. :rant:

 

On second thoughts maybe that should just be for second cars. That way everyone pays a flat rate for their necessity car and gets stung based on the miles they do in their secondary car. Probably too difficult to track and completely infeasible, but then that's why I'm not a politician. :duffer:

There is NO such thing as climate change 'caused by our actions'! Climate change IS happening, yes, but it is a natural thing, it is natural evolution. Nothing we can do can possibly affect nature, if we think so, then we are exaggerating our own importance. This has been proved by certain scientists, but they have been slapped down (as Enoch Powell was when he dared to speak the truth about immigration years ago), any scientist who dares to say that climate change is not due to human actions, has their funding withdrawn and is ridiculed by the establishment. Their careers are effectively destroyed, the whole climate change/global warming thing is a political con trick, to more effectively control us, and to take billions more from us! It is also a way to make it so that only the rich can afford to use the roads and have a nice lifestyle. We need a right wing revolution.

I repeat, global warming/climate change whatever they are calling it now, is NOT manmade!!! It doesn't matter what you do, you will make NO difference whatever, nature controls the climate and will always do so, we are nothing compared to the forces of nature. The climate has been changing since the world began, and will continue to do so ( quite naturally) whatever we do or don't do! We are being LIED to, we are being taken for a ride yet again by lying, conniving, crooked, scumbag politicians! Stand up and be counted, do something about it, lets put an end to the crooked, rotten 'old boys club' political system in this country once and for all, we have NO freedom, they just impose whatever they want on us, and if we complain, they call us racists, extremists, terrorists, they call us thick, ignorant bigotted etc etc, just to shut us up and make us frightened to speak out. If we do not stop them, then the only people able to afford to drive at all, will be the rich (which is the way they want it to be). We are heading back to the age when the car first appeared, the rich will be the only ones able to afford to own a car. Imagine if ALL motorists came out onto the roads to protest, not just the truckers. The vast majority of people in this country have cars/vans etc, if we all came out, protested on the roads and refused to accept this s**t, then they would be seriously rattled, also use your votes to say this is unnacceptable, tell them that you will not vote for them again if they dare to do this. They will do 'anything' for votes/power. This is the mistake we made when the truckers came out and protested, we (ALL motorists) should've come out with them and made it clear we are not going to be trampled over any more. This concerns all of us, not just truckers, they crushed the truckers, but would they have been able to crush millions of motorists coming out to protest at once? That would put the fear of God into them!
