Is this the 300ZX replacement? If so, I thought it would've been more of a beast. It has less BHP, no turbo option and a slower 0-60 time. Looks gorgeous though...

I had heard that there was to be a number of versions in the US not just one and the sport or club version was supposed to be faster though???

Last thing i heard it was going to be a aluminium block V8 basic evolution of the VQ engine used in Maxima - pushes about 260bhp and runs very clean which is important for Japan and America !

Turbocharging a Aluminium block will be fraught with danger - I think this car will be more in the Audi/Rover school of tunning thatn the 300zx/Supra mold!

Sport options LOL - from Nissan that will mean bigger alloys and spoiler biggrin.gif

Crap - im sorry i started talkin about cars for a minute.

Shit fuck arse wank tosser poo turd crap

Is that better biggrin.gif

God is coming ...and he dont have stock turbos . . .

Hadn't realised a V8 would be in it. If no turbos then how far without NOS will it be able to be mod'd? Will it ever be able to compete with a Z32? Would be a shame if it turned out to be a lame duck after such good heritage.

Oh and I prefer the car talk, the slagging off gets so tiresome.

Yeah exactly - in not really up on tuning engines with aluminium blocks - if you look on some of the american car forums for cars like Saturns or Maxima's they probably know the best sorta stuff to do - they are more or less honda boys tho from what i have seen. Probably lots of Cold air intakes and the like will be made lol biggrin.gif

I think the niche they are going for is for people that want the Hugo Boss Style, with near Super car power on a Mondeo budget - if marketed properly they could do very well!

I think the GT car class has diversified greatly since the realease of the Z32! will be interesting to see what they do with the new GTR - altho heavy emmisions regulations are hampering the production of the next Z32,Supra, GTR

When the engine blew I took a couple of days looking at alternatives secondhand and new and soon to come out and was really disappointed. I like GT's and saloon type power cars just aren't for me. Seems as though the next series of Japanese GT's could be a problem, as you say, emission laws in the US and Europe have got to be an issue. More cars that look good but have no real guts in them is one thing, but if they have limited potential for being modified it is really going to hamper them being sold to people who want Porsche power but more individuality.

I did read in this month's EVO that Mitsubishi are trying to pull a fast one with the Jap govt. and allow then EVO VIII to have more than 276 BHP standard. If they can do this, then perhaps there is some hope. Or am I barking up the wrong tree bec. I am a tosser ??? (Thought I'd start a slanging match with meself)

"I'm a fraud. A poor, lazy, sexy fraud."

There is a definate shift in the industry towards this sort of thing and its all down to sales and profit. I remember some of the talks we were given at Nissan when we were in the shit financially and renault had to bail us out. I cant remember the exact figures but Nissan had a huge range of models including the commercials etc and it was only a handfull of these that were actually making a profit. A few months ago we had a big speech at the launch of the new primera about how it was going to be a winner, they told us "you build em and we can sell em", now already production is being reduced because of less than expected sales.

The point being is that the amount of 300zx type cars that you sell hardly shows a profit on the books compared to the micra which is a much cheaper car to develop and support and sells by the millions. This is of course all down to the customer, most of the sport models these days are being made with smaller engines because people basicly kak themselves at the thought of buying a 3 litre turbo car and worry about reliability, fuel consumption, insurance, parts etc. This is why we now have the likes of the Audi TT to corner the 'soft shite' end of the market, something people want to look good outside a trendy wine bar but shit themselves at the thought of driving a proper performance car.

Oh dear im beginning to sound like an article from top gear magazine...better add some more swearing.. Shit bollox poo

There thats better

Paulg: which part of Nissan did you work at?

PhilD: Japanese law states they're not allowed to advertise cars above 276 BHP. The cars can be though.

In Sunderland?

I used to work on DC T2 in 1998. I was only there for 4 months or so, but I quite liked it. It kept me fit, now I'm just an unhealthy, lazy git sitting in an office all day. I helped build the FIRST EVER Micra Van. Haha
