just a update on my poor battered and bruised zed :(

transpires that to day (after 3 weeks of chasing him) that he doesnt have insurance, surprise surprise

bodyshop quotes have come to £1300 and thats without the overheating problem :( hope fully that is just a nipped pipe or fan issue *fingers crossed*

i have decided to cut my losses and not go down the insurance route myself and have not bothered with the police either.

have been in touch with the lad tonight and have drawn up a contract of payment which is well under bodyshop quote

26 x £25 = £600

the reason for my undeniable good will is that with the car off the road till summer now and the forthcoming purchase of 99 spec bumper i just need a bumper support bar and the heating issue sorted.

just glad the ball is finally rolling, been pulling my hair out for the last few weeks :headvswal

Aw your joking mate... What a nightmare, always the ones that dont have insurance that hit you isn't it!

Is that not going to leave you £700 out of pocket though? Or was £1300 the insurance quotes. Whats the actual cost of repair?

Since when did it start overheating? this oil or water temperature?

  • Author

well the quotes included 460 for new bumper plus the lights and fitting, paint, blending etc

well i have a new bumper coming anyway, when i cam make it down to collect it

(sorry dan if your reading this!)

overheating is just the fact the engine bay felt really hot. gauges didnt show anything abnormal but stock gauges so dont expect the too!!

That absolutely sucks, but it's the best thing you can do, more frustration is the last thing you want. Hope you get her back on the road as soon as possible.

exactly, just wanted it sorted and if it went police or small claims i would prob get nothing anyway.

heyho...all winter to get her looking pretty again!

I'll be honest with you, mine always feels hot... But according to conzult/datascan water temperature doesnt get to anymore than 81*c (like 82 if you thrash it and then stop!)

Perhaps worth looking at getting a copy of datascan at least, really handy to check stuff like that...

Bad as it is, if the gauges look right then im normally happy lol, but i do regularly keep an eye on it if ive got the laptop in the car.

Or look at one of those gizmos that Pete has got (Turb0z) that displays Timing, water temp, and injector load i think and it sits on a pillar pod. Quite cool

on a 8 mile trip i could hardly hold the bonnet stay so something is a miss somewhere i think.

Anyone up around carlisle that could have a look at it for him??

Bit of a run for me... Really gutted about yours really, it was nice. Seemed to run a treat. :(. I most certainly hope its nothing serious and doesnt lead to any other issues.

There is a very sobering moment if one of these County Court claims drops on your doormat.

https://www.moneyclaim.gov.uk/csmco2/index.jsp

The Defendant will usually cave in out of court. Thus he agrees to pay your costs, damages and if not then, as long as your case is reasonable and you are in the right, go for it.

It takes about 15-20 mins online and nearly always works.

I tried it once and got every penny back plus costs.

Just a thought................. afterall sometimes justice works for the victim instead of the crook!! :D

if you report it to your insurance company, they will contact the mib (motoring industry berau), it will cost you nothing, it is a governing body that insurance company's pay into that covers things like this, but you must contact the police and report ther guy, although they may still write it off
