March 12, 200125 yr further to my earlier post (intermitent cam follower noise) someone has recommended Lucas oil stabiliser , its american and can be mixed with synthetic oil etc and it sounds very good ,just wondered if anyone had heard of it or has used it ? thanks paulr
March 13, 200125 yr Paul, Firstly, The Americans like something called Marvel Mystery Oil to get rid of lifter tick and other noisey Cam problems. Now Altho this does work. It Does NOT fix the problem, it simply masks it, so that you can no longer hear it. Personally i dont like putting anything in my Oil, Specially some of the nasty stuff they sell over here. If the problem is repairable without replacement parts then the problem is usually oil sedement deposits interfering with some part of the operation of the valve timing system. So basically the only way to fix the problem is to get a full system Flush done by a compedent mechanic. I would also get there recommendation on this before doing it ! If that fails then it is time for either New Cams or Valve Lifters which will hurt the pocket im afraid, (JUN Cams and Valve springs yum :o) ) Z ya Nico91TT
March 13, 200125 yr the slick fully synthetic and slick tansax are good but not for curing tapping etc but when changing ure oil and adding this as well its protecting ure engine
March 13, 200125 yr Is that the Slick 50 stuff that halfords sell, I think that was the stuff Rodders put in his Z when his seals were failing only to find it totally killed his engine. It might not be, i might just be being paranoid, but if mobile 1 dont put it in there, i dont use it! Z ya Nico91TT
