After all the hassle and trouble i have been through getting my car rebuilt and finally gettting some where i hear this.

Keeping in mind the engine has just been fully rebuilt and is brand new.

There is a noise coming from the engine.

The garage who has fitted the engine and done all the work have been great and made more progress in a month than i saw in 2 years from every where else it has been.

But do you remember me having problems with my crank?? the engine shop had took a chunk out of it while machining it and swore it was purely cosmetic??? well i had problems finding a garage who would rebuilding the engine with that crank. So the engine shop who machined the crank still insisted it was cosmetic and agreed they would build the engine but at a cost and no it wasn't cheap at all.

So not only the engine is making noices but i'm in a awkrud position as the engine was built by another company. and i don't want it to go back there to be checked over purley because how much they messed me about. I want the garage where it is now to fix it but who pays for it etc. I really shouldn't have to.

In my opinion dude, that crank was not suitable to be fitted in to an engine that was gonna have 2 turbos bolted on and thrashed to within an inch of it's life. :(

The garage fitting the engine have no bearing on wether the engine in broken or not. It must go back to whoever rebuilt it.

What sort of noises is it making, take a video of it and post it up here?

The garage has now resolved the noises so that's one off my mind. few.... I was getting worried about that one.

The other issue is that something withing the cambelt case is catching probable the cam belt it's self.

I need to get confirmation from the engine shop that they are happy for the garage to inspect this and resolve this issue. We don't want it to void my warranty on the engine just by doing it.

By the time i got down there it was running and sounded nuts!! just ticking over it had such a rumble.

I'm so glad that the noise within the engine is now not a issue and it's only the cam belt one which hopefully is easy to fix.

Can't believe it though, today was the first time i heard it running in 2 years.

Did they actually tell you what the cause of the engine noise was?

I never thought that amount of damage to the crank would have caused such premature wear that the engine would be knocking already. Glad you've got it almost sorted! That crank will probably last as long as any other, provided that everything else was machined to the correct tolerance for the new shells.

Nope, not sure.

I don't think the crank had anything to do with it, was just pointing out it was the same engine shop.

However, the engine should never have been built with that Crank!!!! It might not be the problem, but if in doubt and it's an engine out job to replace it.... swap it, renew it or replace it in the first place!

This is the most finely balanced piece of the engine and any weight difference will cause undue 'load' on the bearings...Don't forget RPM is Revolutions per minute... meaning that even when running it in at no more than 3000 revs, the crank is turning at 50 times per second and then add the load and torque of the gearbox and wheels and thats why it's finely machined....The missing metal will be 'missing weight' and therefore the crank is not 'Balanced' they should have machined another as this might come back to haunt you and is why the original garage wouldn't want to build with that crank!......Just my thoughts...

i was thinking along these lines when read it the first time, was the crank rebalanced after it's little accident?

sory. why did you agree to have a dammeged part put in your engine which needs to be ballanced. take it back to them, get them to fix it or give them a legal bill that will amount to much more, ad they will have to fix it on top

I think it's all too late to start confusing the issue now. Once it was accepted and the engine rebuilt, there is no going back, unless of course it fails prematurely or does not run properly, i.e. vibrates, rattles etc., I assume this was stipulated at the outset tho' when you accepted the damaged crank. Lets hope all goes well and you finally get to enjoy the car again and the last 2 years quickly fade from your memory.

The crank was scuffed while knife edging after that it was then balanced.

The company insisted it was fine so they built the engine and gave me a warranty on it.

when i used to knife edge bike cranks they had to be ballanced with the rods and pistons as a matching set, even had to calculate the weight of the pin circlips and having said that years later ime under the assumption that edging the cranks has a negative affect when you then try to flatten out bottom end vibrations

^^^ ...Exactly! Precision engineering has to happen on any engine if you want a rebuild to last.

I was shocked at the time as the engine shop has a good name and is meant to be very good. I took their word for it as they were meant to be good and offered a warranty on the engine.
