yeah, found 3 sellers on usa ebay, none in the uk. all for $299, I have asked each one for a postage quote.

last month i got charged a total of £35 (£11 was brokers surcharges) for shipping from the states and the value was about £285 total

under 250 is classed as non chargeable i think

well they are more like £160 without the shipping so shouldn't be a problem then.

It greatly depends on the shipping company (courier) as to whether you get charged for customs, but it's also random! If UPS is used then you'll defo get charged! Same goes for a lot of stuff Parcel Force Worldwide deliver as well. I have found that anything sent from the states by US Postal service hasn't (so far) been hit with customs charges, but that's no guarantee.

Also there is no lower limit as far as I know, I've had stuff for sub-£200 that has been charged before.
