Just the facts......

She wont start

She will turn over

She would initially fire but die instantly, now she wont fire at all

There is fuel at the outlet from the fuel filter

I've fitted a replacement CAS (as suggested as it was extremely hot)

Further info (if needed)...

I took her for a 45 mile run last Friday late afternoon, parked her, and then when I came back to her she wouldn't start. It initially fired but died instantly, and would do this for a few more attempted starts. Now it won't fire at all. Unfortunately it's now dark out there so I've had to give up for today, so it's yet another walk to work again tomorrow :(

Please help guys if you can :)

EDIT* I've hooked DataScan and there is no fault codes.

PTU is a series 2, fitted about 2 years ago.

As for spark that's what I'm gona have to try next, but as it's dark at the moment it's gona have to wait until either tomorrow evening or Saturday.

Need to check that spark, and if that cas sensor is good, good to check that series 2 PTU out.

A good check it to take the CAS off again but leave connected electrically (i.e., attached to the PTU) turn on the ignition and then rotate the shaft of the CAS in the direction of the motor. Should be able to hear the injectors firing (clicking) and the fuel pump running, as the pump will not run without a signal from the CAS. If no signal It will start and then stop almost immediately but gives the impression that you are getting fuel.

might be worth checking the fuel pump ecu as that can also cause similar problems.

When I had a similar problem, on speaking to the professionals apparently it is very rare for one of these to go down. I replaced the the lot, fuel pump, pump ECU, pump relay, PTU with a Mk2, and still no joy. It was the connector on the CAS being corroded which was discovered when I removed it to turn it over by hand.

be careful to mark the position of the CAS before you take it out because if it is put back in the wrong position your timing will be out.

There's a handy guide to a couple of tests (including the CAS test) here Dave - good luck bud!

Thanks for all of the help guys, but.....

I'll cut to the chase, after spending all day ****ing around, I've managed to flatten the battery again, but the last check I've done is to find out that the fuel pump isn't running - no pressure in the fuel line and no power to the pump. The fuel pump relay is clicking, as and when it should be.

Battery is on charge again, so will start again in the morning. Going to check again if I'm getting 12v on the output from the relay AND at both sides that the immobiliser is cut into the wire to the pump (as I can't rule out the alarm at the moment)

I am 90% convinced it's a fuel problem, it's just a case of finding what isn't working as it should be.

Again, thanks guys

Thanks guys for all the help, it's been really appreciated

Wahoooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ;)

SORTED!!! :D

The fault was where the alarm/immobiliser was cut into the fuel pump feed wire. Basically I checked for voltage either side of the cut while I was cranking the engine and there was no output from the immobiliser! So I've cut in a new length of wire into the loom and by-passed the immobiliser and it fired first time! :D

So it looks like a new alarm is required, either that or cut in a secret/hidden fuel switch like was fitted to my old XR4i :)
