Well finally decided to not be too silly and not get a toy but to get a better car for my daily use for work and play :)

Needs to be diesel, needs to be an estate for the dog but needs to be a bit more involved than my laguna LOL

Pretty much got it down to 2 types of cars

Audi A4 Avant 2.5 Quattro - 180 bhp or

BMW 330D Touring - 204 bhp

Now i know the bmw is more powerful but it also does less MPG than the audi and the bmw is alot smaller inside the boot area, then again i only have the dog to go in there, its not like i shift coffins

So unless theres anything ive missed on the market for around £15k ish then which ones the best one?? who has had one and can comment?

All advice appreciated as its going to be a major family purchase so needs to be right :)

Mike

ps these pics are just for examples, but they are both around £15k and the right models ;)

Audi all the time. The BMW is a very fine machine, but the thing with Audis is, there's no stigma attached to them in the same way that BMWs have. I am sure that's not one of your issues, but just something to think of. :)

I've got a stoft spot for Audis and find the cabin spaces much better. Have driven both the A4 + A6 and the E46 and just prefer the feel of the Audis.

I do also prefer the look of the A4. Very neat design. Find the audio equipment better in the Audis compared to the BMWs.

if you get an audi always try and get the S-line model of whatever you want, they have more toys on them

i would have the audi, thinking of an audi S3 for my next motor

I've been a passenger in the BMW and can tell you they do go some and don't feel as wooden as the Audi. I have had the Audi as an hire car + I also had the Passat with the same motor. I thought the Passat was a more engaging drive though nothing too much wrong with any of them.

I'd also suggest you chech out the V70 D5 sport. It's as quick as the BMW and as frugal as the Audi. + Handle as well as the BMW and bigger than the Audi as well as being well cumfy.

Oh yes the Ford Mondeo 2.2 TDCi is well rapid, handle brill, same monocock as the V70. Better fuel consumption and if you get the GHIA X it is fully loaded.

But the Mondeo will depreciate like a whore dropping her knickers.

exactly, i did look at the st tdci which is 2.2 and 155 bhp and i could get a nearly new one but i think i would rather get a year or two older and get an audo or bmw.

Mark, you and your volvo's LOL i'm sure your on commission :p tbh i did look at the v50 and find that possibly the nicest looking model and you can get a fairly new one for a veyr good price but something inside me tells me i would get the p1ss taken for getting one

you can buy a brand spanking new car of the last model for £15 grand with 3 year warrenty and 3 year service included. Saving £8K and as a result I bet after 3 years they cost about the same.

Drive them both mate.

You'll find the Audi puts you to sleep cos its quiet boring and the BMW you'll enjoy.

And you can take advantage of the so called "Stigma" you get driving a BMW. You can drive like a cnut all day long and no one will batter an eyelid cos your in a BMW, your ment to!

Funny thing for someone to say, if you dont like stigma's with cars why do you like your datsun so much??? ;)

V50 is crap. It is basically a Ford Focus where as the V70 is a proper Volvo + You cannot get the V50 with the D5 sport which is 260 bhp and 9999999999999999999 ft per square inch torque apulling basr***ds. I keep recomending them because for all the years of having company cars Beeners Mercs etc Volvo's have left a better impresion on me and I think because of the old 944 image they don't get the credit they deserve. Try one and i bet you buy it.

I've owned both and I'm currently in the BMW camp - I found the a4 very soul-less, when I tried it on extended test drive...

I've had 2 beemers for my last 2 daily drives (first 2 in my life) and they've both been great, although I haven't had a 3-series.

I'm also now of the opinion that it won't be long before Audi takes over the pole position in the stigma stakes - I'd say the number of tossers sat 2 inches from my bumper on the motorway ratio now has the A4 as the definite winner.

BMW stigma is as clichéd these days as yuppies and 911s (unless it's an x5, of course, then all bets are off - stigma applies ;) ).

All IMO, of course...

CheerZ,

JB.

Fair point.

However i have also owned both, an a4 and a 3 series, and the a4 just feels better in everyway IMO.

Nissan are faimed for bland cars (generally), not the nuggets that drive them. BMW have that 'middle lane, don't indicate king of the road' stigma to them. :)

Rubbish, Nissan have the cheap old folks car that potter about in the middle lane while obliviosly still indicating right while going 45mph stigma! :D

Case in point, the MICRA! And the Sunny! :D

Yeah, but that's better than being branded a BMW driver! LOL ;)

Tis true ! It's quite a stigma owing a Beamer - and after all the bad things I've said about them over the years too ... :o

What he said......

VAG diesels are among the best out there also. BM will be quick but the Quattro Audi will handle superbly and you won't be bothered by the winter snow up north ;)

You know it makes sense.....

Richard :D

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

That is a valid point......

......on my way up to the Lakes last month, the only cars to tailgate me (until the road in front of me cleared and I had the space to let the turbos do their stuff ;) ) were actually Audi A4s and A3s. All BMW drivers on the day just got out of my way

Richard

All BMW, Audi and Merc diesel drivers are To$$ers!....At least the ones on the M40 are!:D

Do you drive a beamer?:rofl::rofl:

Jez, you might spot at least one courteous one, next time I'm on my way to Oxford (weekly commute) ... Not that mine's a diesel, mind - 4.4 litres of V8 running beautifully on LPG :nana2:

I always wave at Zs though - enjoy seeing the confused reaction - unless I'm driving mine, of course...
