Dead injector ??

Following on from my missfire thread-it still does :smash:

I have been to my local auto- electricians.

We put new coil+ injector connectors on.

Then we checked for an ecu signal, the pulse light lit up on the tester.

Still a dead 170 psi cylinder

Now i'm totally confused, is the injector fooked?, or is there anything i've not done+ should of?

did the sparkie not put an ohms meter across the injector?.you could make up a lead to a 9v battery and wire it to the injector and see if it clicks.

You could take the injector out and get it pressure tested, in fact while you are at it, take them all out and get them utrasonicaly cleaned as well.

He just used an 'energy probe' - supposed to show voltage + signals.

So thats a plenum off job?, or is the dodgy sounding 'dremel' method good?

plenum off mate.even if you do dremel enough room to get a screw driver on the injector screws.they usually round off and the injectors are so tight if you pull them from above they break.

agreed, although takin the plenum of is a bit of a pig, specially if you havent done it before, if you do have the plenum of then be sure to take pics methodically to refer back to, as you end up with pipes and connectors all over the shop.

Another easy method for testing an injector in situ is with the engine running put the end of a screwdriver on a known good injector and put your ear to the handle, you will hear it clicking, then try the suspected faulty injector, if no click is heard it is definitely faulty. As Jimmer stated, injectors usually require to be pressed out of the fuel rail so plenum off, but you can then do a top end water bypass, replace PCV valves and pipes, and if on a roll, do the EGR mod. It would be good also to clean your AIV valve.

Mind the wiring can be iffy and hardend and brittle on these. My rear drivers side injector regularly takes a vacation. I found it by trial and error. I wiggle the wires to the connector on the injector and hear the engine pick up and go smooth again on all 6. Then it works ok for ages again. Obviously there's a bad connection or maybe an internal wire break close to the connector. When the engine was out last the guy fitted new connectors for the front 4 but didnt or couldnt fit new ones on the rear two. I am sure there's nothing wrong with the injector only the wiring and its intermittent.

Well after a lot of thought,+ using the faq (cheers andy).sod it.

'Hold me feet love, i'm going in'

I will be swearing+ losing spanners+ sockets that i know 'were just there a mo' ago' lol

I'm taking the plenum off.....how hard can it be.hahahahahahahahahaha

I'm fully prepared, gaskets+fuel lines+o rings on the way, fully stocked up with headache pills, punch bag + guinness.Work begins friday. :hurl:

That 'listen for the clicking' is Kinda hard, pull connector off, clicking, on-still sounds like lots of clicking.

I lost the plot today. MJP delivered the correct gaskets with lightning speed .

Breakers rushed out another injector, a bit battered.Ok, i can still do it.

Then it comes to nissan, all ordered during the week 'yes, the seals will be in friday'........'oh you mean this friday.no can do :mac1:

In desperation, i bought a dremel! :nana2:

Its scary as?

doing that, even then you have to do more than it looks, because the screws rather long.but.Job's a good one, its now on 6 + back to :hyper:

Thanks to all who helped along the way.

To make it easier to listen to the 'clicking'. Get a long, clean screwdriver, put it onto the top of the injector when the engine is running, and put the handle to your ear, you'll hear it.

Test it on an injector you know is working, you'll hear the difference.

Old method, but the old ones are sometimes the best.

Did I read correctly that you have voltage to the injector plug? Ifso, it's not just a dirty connection is it??

i just couldn't hear any difference,but .

After the injector changeover, its running sweet as now :hyper:
