I have decided to get my new zed in mint condition, so I spent some time with my local bodyshop over the weekend.

They have given me a great price for a respray in the original Gunmetal grey - but If I am getting the work done - now might be a good time to get a colour change.

I like the grey, but I also like the focus ST Orange...

What do you think?

i wouldnt personally go for a respray in orange. Its a little too in your face for me, i do like Si Zs as is not quite so citrus.

Must say my fave colour for a zed is metallic red or blue, the zed is a slick car and i just think bright paint jobs spoil that sleekness!!

Hmmm... nice colour, but can't get over that Veilside front, I just don't like it. Shame, the rest of the C1 bodykit is nice.

What is an "orange carbon fibre" interior kit? Can you even get coloured carbon fibre, i.e. sprayed with some sort of translucent coating? Just out of interest...

orange look lush although i saw a new clio in some pearl yellow which looked awesome, that would suit a Zed.

Have to agree. The side and rear profiles are quite nice but the front doesn't spin my wheels.

No idea sorry.

come on it has to be the st orange the grey just dont look right on a zed. the orange looks great in the sun not that we get much here. :hyper:

Pah... orange... no no no looks rather silly (looks like a male menopause moment)

My Zed is beautiful and it's grey :D :D

Mine's bayside blue, but I bought it like that, If for whatever reason I did change it I would have to have a really rich copper (With almost a hint of red), like a brand new 1p or 2p.

Well mines orange, but I'm gonna respray it green, see if I can do it myself this time. :p

Getting rid of viper spoiler and replacing with a black 99 spec, black wheels, black mirrors and some black fog light scoop inserts. Should be interesting?

Sorry but all mobile phone pics.

Not too sure about the orange. It's good but might look a bit OTT on a standard car. Like the idea of gunmetal grey...or if you fancy going non OEM take a look at the almost battleship grey used on the Lamborghini 640...very nice indeed.

BTW, while I'm here and talking about spraying...is the offer still there to borrow your gun chap? If so...yes please! :D ;)

Edit: BTW, do you mind me asking which bodyshop are you using? Still in need of one to respray the Z! :)

yellow zeds don't look to bad. so maybe yellow with a bit of orange??

Personally always like the zed with purple camelon paint...(???)

We,ve got an orange Focus ST in at the mo for repairs and a re-paint , i,ve been told it IS the same colour as the lambo,s

When the 300ZX came out that grey was excellent and in my opinion it looks even better today. I personally would not have THIS car in orange as it's the kind of thing that attracts a lot of attention and for me unwanted attention. I think a newly repainted original grey zed would be a class act. grey alloys and cleared/smoked indicators all round and it would IMHO be one of the best Zed's out there. For me part of the class of the zed is its Q-car status mixed in with a bit of 80's sports car machissmo - it's under rated, but only by the novice/the flash crowd but highly regarded by the connoisseur, as he does not care what others think and he knows, i.e. he is the authority on this car not them, he drives the car because he knows it, loves and feels it - he doesn't quote the figures or have anything to prove to anyone else. He is not a copycat following the lead of the salesperson, reporter, clarksonperson or crowd in general. He stands for something. I think the Zed in that gun metal is understated - as I think it should be in the best sense of the word. A elegant act, not asking to be noticed by those who shouldn't be in the know about it... a mild mannered reporter during the day... you got my drift... it's why i prefer it to a supra, it's why i would never put a high spoiler on it... It's why Steve-300ZX's car just works. Believe me I like a lot of the kits, but in my heart I just think to myself why spoil such a beautiful machine... For me the ethos of the car, especially the twin turbo is all about effortlessness... I put my foot down and it gets there quitely, proudly, surely and honestly... It doesn't shout out about its performance, it doesn't let everyone know it's here... it doesn't really even break into a sweat... I guess for me what it boils down to is the simple fact that I believe that what we have, and what unites us, is respect for one of the best cars ever produced. Why shout out that you have what it takes if you already know you have it? Grey my friend, Gunmetal Grey - Original and Best! Just my 2 pence...

What a testemant to the zed!!!

He gets my vote for "Quote-of-the-year"!!!!!

He's summed that up pretty damn well, IMHO!!

hmmmmmmm.......if your looking at reds....why not go for

gunmetal grey was my first z, and i remember saying this car doesn't need a flash colour. I still believe that. Hope you stick with your original colour , or close to it. There are georgeous metallic greys and blacks out their now.

There are exceptions , some members on here have been brave and pulled it off with great results.

one thing , the grass is always greener .....

i want pearl white, bet if i got it i'd want pearl black after a year or two!

best of luck with the job

^^ A definate man in the know ;) ...Mines grey, Smooth on the rear and understated just how i like it...

If i re-did it i go for a lighter option grey..take a look at the 240 z baby and tell me it isn't amazing?! Mines like the one on LUKEz centeres site (attached). I tend to think that the SWB suits bolder colours and the LWB is best with more subtle colour. My other faves are PETEY099 and STEVEs green one...just my opinion though. I'm a fan of the Burnt orange that Audi do in the A4, but again only think it would suit a SWB...

You meaning Pete's old SWB in the pic above??? :hyper: :D :hyper:

What is the front bumper on the blue one? and what colour blue is it?

The bumper is an Abflug 4.

Seems to be more of them about at the moment as well.

As for colour, what ever makes you happy mate, after all you have to look at it every day, polish it wash it etc.

Hi,

Has anyone tried a pale metallic blue?....Saw a nice Audi in a light metallic blue the other day and thought it looked a lovely colour.

Personally I think that the subtler colours suit the 300ZX best, if you're keeping the car looking standard.

Cheerz,

Jez.

There is a pale blue on e-bay at the moment, im not sure i like it!

The orange is imo gorgeous, was thinking of sprayng my old mat black Z st orange, i know you want to keep the car standard outside but if ur going for a colour like that then a subtle bodykit would be worth your while, again imo!

Couldn't agree more. 240z you put up there is a beaut even though I'm not a great fan of them in general and particular agree on the SWB's looking better with "bold" (read flash) colours. Finally have seen some cars in orange that look good. Can't say I'd like a 300 in it until I see one I like, now a sagaris in reflex orange and black leather, on the other hand, looks the business... that grey beast is utterly inspiring... thinking of respraying mine... what do you think boys? grey, black or dark blue mettalic (bmw circa 94 pearl blue - not m3 avus but darker with more of a gleam - with cream/magnolia leather)?
