as some people may know my Z has failed its mot on a few things.

The main 2 being that the brake lines are corroded and both rear inner sills need sorted.

Has anyone had this work done before that can give me a rough idea of what im looking at if i decide to fix her up rather than sell as she is?

Cheers

Brett

I did one of my brake pipes at the rear, I took off the exhaust, dropped the driveshaft, and it was still nearly impossible to do, took ages and lots of bleeding knuckles but i did do it.

We did one the other day. Had to fully remove the rear sub frame to gain access to the brake lines, not a quick job but wasn't to hard to sort. As for your welding thats a different matter because you have a wide arch body kit fitted and depending on how bad the sills are you could be looking at respray work on the car as the kit makes it difficult to get to work and weld on the sills

What's to prevent you replacing all the brake lines with flexible Aeroquip hosing ? Should be easier to install and will never corrode.

well we did more that just the rear brakes as the car was in for M.O.T failure work and a services. All I can say is that the hole job took 18 hours mate. Alot gepends on the state of the fixings

We looked into doing this and the braided hoses have got a certain amount of expansion compared to the metal pipes so over a length of the car there is a issue of a spongy pedal !!!!

RobboGaz from Suffolk had the same done not long ago - ask him how much it cost.

I know the first place he took it to declined the job...

Good luck

Jack

I had one of my rear sills replaced last year. Including the replacement sill itself (from MJP) the work cost me about £200..

Brake lines I think you should be able to get done a bit cheaper if you shop around, done mine 2 years ago at the front of my house which is obviously going to be a bit harder than a garage with a ramp etc, and took me a weekend.

You can do them by dropping the subframe enough to gain access, as long as all the nuts and bolts loosen ok it its not too bad, it is awkward but can be done.

The sills I think will be a different ball game, It all depends on the job you want done and who you take it to, £400 and thats gonna be a cover up enough to pass a test job.

Ive just done mine and can honestly say that what you see on the outside is nothing compared to the condition of the inner sections, ive replaced sections of the outer sill, sill return, inner panel and sections of floor and rear arches, to do it right takes time and that means money, lots of it.

My inner section was also replaced - I've just checked the invoices and the welding and treatment work was £276 and the replacement sills (inner and outer) were £135. Total therefore was £411 for one side. Sorry about the duff info - my memory's not what it used to be ;) :D
