ok before i begin , to some of you im known to some of you im not to some of you you would wish i died many years ago , :smash:

ok thats that cleared up ,

As you can see im not a stranger to the 300zx site and was a 300zx owner, and a member of this club what i want to ask you is ----

could you honestly say your zed has been reilable to a point , be honest i mean apart from regular wear and tear , discs pads and clutches etc , im seriously thinking of coming back to zed ownership as im bored of owning a evo ,

many of me friends on there say im mad , but only one of them has owned a zed apart from me ,and the zed burned a whole in my pocket yes but it also burned a flame on my soul i cant get rid off ,

both of us went to bad mechanic yes , which kind of ended a sweet dream i had as a kid of owning a zed .dont ask! :slap:

anyways just want to get some feedback of owners in the last year and wanted to know if you have ever regreted owning or buying a zed ?

I didnt with mine i never regreted buying it i just regreted what it cost me to keep it , but lately ive just bin thinking i had real bad luck and no one can say i didnt spend money on my zed to get it right only to be foiled by past items bought to keep it in good health ,

so in short convince me !

welcome all coments ,

from those ive had run ins with and those i havent above all be honest and i hope the swear filter is on !! :nana2: :nana2:

The looks, performance and comfort are irresistible, however the engineering and technology to achieve it is complicated. This is what makes them affordable to buy now but the maintenance cost will of course remained the same as when they were new, excepting that you can now buy some good secondhand bits and the internet certainly helps in getting those bits more readily. Sadly when you look at the engineering and electronics, expect to pay higher premiums for their repair and maintenance. That said with a bit of patience and self educating, there are a lot of things you can do yourself especially with the high level of support information available from this club.

Although it has an intermitant vibration at 55mph... (on wednesdays and sundays, when the wind blows from the east and its about 12*C outside....! not quite that fussy but it seems random!) It hasnt let me down in almost a year of ownership, only done 6k or so miles.... but its never not started, or stalled or done somthing strange. Thats from a fairly standard (it becomes less standard every day as i discover more things that it has that i didnt know about....) JDM Auto TT, been in the country 10 years. Tiny bit of rust on one arch (size of my little finger nail under the pain) and paint loss here and there.... which i'll fix soon. Buts its been great, as you can tell its in my good books at the moment!

1st z i had i bought for 1100 quid and i drove it for a year nearly. and cost me nothing i didnt even servce it. it was a swb tt t top and i drove the crap out of it and i mean i really abused it badly..and cost nothing bar a clutch.

2nd one i had.i had it a fortnight and it c?aped its self cost a fortune after and after an :smash: engine rebuild it was fine then the clutch went.then the rad then brakes then etc etc etc

3rd

the one i have now was an n/a now turboed na engine is only used 4 track days and the odd smoke about at the weekend gets the death really bad and ive done nothing in two months and i cant seem to kill it and beleave me ive tryed!!!!

well im going the other way, i want an evo lol

evos well there ok handel great go well but there becomeing like novas lol well maybe not that bad..but there evey were and most people WELL near me that have evo s are poor little rice boys or just plain cant drive...a z is nice handels well quick as well as an evo just as exspenceve to fix when bust.more fun to drive ..... :shock

sorry bout the spelling folks..

1st zed 2 gearboxes and many minor niggles

2nd dead engine and thats it so far but ive only had about 4 hrs driving it.

I remember you moaning alot about your last Zed and how much money it was costing you so I would suggest not to buy another one. As we all know they are old cars now and they cost a lot to maintain, regardless of how many people on here say how reliable theirs is.

in the 6 years i have owned it I had trouble with a starter motor, which was under warrenty, ignition issues because some asswipe before me had steam cleaned the engine and the terminals had corroded, so I replaced the loom. Had my stock breaks go south, Stillen sorted that And now my auto box had gone south, but that was my fault for driving it realy hard and flipping it into nutral.

other than that the car has started 1st time, every time and been a peach every day.

i havn't had much luck with mine as the engine and turbos gave in the go.

I took it to what i thought to be good garages but turned out to be bad.

It's finally being sorted by the right guys who are cracking on with it and it should all be over very soon.

I think in General if you get a good one they are reliable. But if they go wrong they can be very pricey to put right in compairison to other cars.

In my opinion though nothing looks like the Zed, it looks agressive and is pretty fast standared. other jap cars don't have the looks of the Zed. e.g. the Evo, don't get me wrong they are nice looking but they look like a boy racer family car.

i was going to buy and Evo but my wife said it was the worst looking car she has seen. Said it looked like a nasty chav boy racer car. I dont agree but decided not to get one so i didnt have to listen to her moan about it.

well im going the other way, i want an evo lol

Watch out he'll try and do a swap ha ha ha

The only problem i have had with mine is when i changed the exhaust and it failed to start for some unknown reason, went in the end, very strange

Buy a good one in the beginning and should be fine, go for a £1500 ebay car and its prob going to cost.

in all fairness id say the only problem with 300's is their gearboxes and thats the auto side.....i caned mine from day 1 and in 3 years it was just gearbox that miffed me. servicing was cheap once you knew half of the primera stuff worked for 300's

Well.... apart from an accident (my rear tyre blew up going round a roundabout) which cost me 3K to fix, and wasn't fixed properly by the pigmy, spent another 2-3 grand or more fixing his shoddy work

Normal stuff like cambelt, clutch, most of it has been replacing worn out 15 year old parts, my turbos did the blue smoke thing, so got some reconditioned ones

NOW, I have a great car, mechancially sound (thanks Duffman) over the moon really

Just minor stuff to do, though I just see it as ongoing maintenance which you expect having a super car like this

My boss has an Audi and his repair bills and services are huge compared to mine

So even though I have had problems in the past, I will just carry on as normal I love my Zed and so can understand why you love them too

It's up to you really, if you can handle the frustrations of a car like this, it depends if the joy of driving it outweighs the cost and maintenance

For me there is just no contest, I just adore the driving sensation, I look out my window and grin like a loony, I have had other cars, that just were... cars

I get in my Zed and really enjoy the experience, that's it for me, I have no idea what I'm going to do, when mine falls apart...

Mine will never ever be the prettiest or the most powerful, yet I just love the power , it's just great fun to drive

It's taken me 5 years to get this far.... :hyper: :D

I think you just have to be very realistic with what you are taking on. I bought my Rex and after a while really missed being in a comfortable Zed so bought a stock one for getting around in. Four months later I just couldn't stomach how much I was shelling out for it in the effort to make it perfect and got rid again. I reckon you need to budget at 80-120k miles for just about every replacable item from turbos, engine, suspension, etc, etc. That means the possibility of double what the car might be worth and for most people that is not palatable. In my mind the Zed is still a £6-8k car, you just have to spend the money after buying it! The quality of the car is more than enough to warrant the outlay, its just whether you can stomach spending the cash knowing there's no way you could get it back?

I think the Zed is no different than any performance car that is over 15 years old. Buy a crap one and you will get fed up with spending money on a bottomless pit. Buy a good one and providing you maintain it properly, it should serve you well. Having owned both a NA and a TT I would suggest the NA is the one to go for if you want to use it as a daily driver. Yes, the TT is faster but by christ does it drink the go go juice. There is also much more that can go wrong.

My NA needed a new clutch shortly after purchase but that was just bad luck - it felt fine for the first 2000 miles. The PTU also packed up but this was a simple replacement. Only other expense was on nice bits (which I didn't need to buy) such as stainless exhaust, leather retrim and 18" alloys. I also had the timing belt changed just in case. All in all, she was pretty reliable.

My TT is only used a second car and just needed a new clutch after 1500 miles - must be catching. Apart from stainless exhaust and alloys she has needed nothing but she has only done 3000 miles since I bought her.

There you have it.
