Hi guys

Rebuild time, the car is goosed. One of the pistons decided to part company with the rod and has trashed the bore.

The garage are buying a used block but I was trying to safe some cash by sourcing pistons myself. Anyone know where I can get some forged standard sized pistons? I dont want to have the bores enlarged as this will mean more cash.

Many Thanks

YOu had better see if the block the garage buys has been rebored and then you can buy a suitably sized piston to fit?

it would indeed.

and best you get it done or youl just be making a grenade.

but that would mean Ineed to get the bores drilled out wont it?

Only if you have the 88mm ones, stock is 87mm, you would generally and should hone and deglaze the bores before fiting new pistons, hence 87.5mm ;)

smithy

If you don't rebore so that the pistons fit the bores exactly then you're just asking for trouble!!!

so if somebody was to buy 88mm pistons what would the bore size have to be?

If you bought 88mm pistons the block would have to be bored 88.010mm minimum and 88.020mm maximum. If you go above the max it would induce piston slap and then usually the piston skirt cracks / disintegrates.
