i've just bought Petey099's swb manual, and although it beens modified to a certain degree, i'm wanting to make it my own.......if that makes sense!

I was looking to first uprate the intercoolers.......and possibly change the suspension. I know that both of these are not gonna effect the power of it, but they're getting changed for piece of mind and to support future mods!

Anyway, my question is......

Is there anywhere that will take your car, you tell them what u want done to it.........and they'll get it to that spec??

I'm assuming that to reach 500bhp (at the wheels) it's gonna need a full rebuild with uprated internals and a completely different set of turbo's???

Thanks for any advice

Mikey

there are loads of places that do that, Thor would be one plus 100's more.

if your not doing it in stages and you want gurenteed results, best get in touch with that bank mannager as I wouldnt mind betting it would cost 10-15K

Nah Stella i bought a SWB TT in june to replace my N/A

Situation has changed tho and needed to sell it, so I did, back to the N/A for now

Edit: Or your thinking of the other Pete

Hi Mikey,

To reach the magic 500 at the wheels its gonna cost LOL

First a rebuild with forged internals to handle the boost

Bigger turbos ie 16g kit or some of the bigger garrett gt range turbos on a sus manifold

Bigger brakes

Better suspension

Bigger injectors and fuel pump

Twin induction set up with twin mafs or remove the mafs

Big side mounts or FMIC

Aftermarket engine managements

Bigger rad and oil cooler

Guages to monitor oil/water temps etc

Remove all the crap you dont need ie aiv's etc

All the above adds up to a hefty sum especially if your getting someone to do it for you, if you were then theres not many places that would/could do it, i know markzx was very happy with phil as C&S woods and ive never heard anything bad said about his work

Kirbz,

Thats exactly what i was looking for!

Theres some of stuff that im happy doing myself.....changing the suspension and the brakes.......but i'd want alot of the more complicated stuff fitted by folk who know exactly what they're doing!

But i doubt i'd do it all at the same time, just wanted some advice as to what would need to be done to reach 500bhp. Was looking at doing it bit by bit, as and when funds allow!!!!

Cheers for your help fellas!!!

Mikey

This is the spec that Im going for

GT675RS turbos

MSP manifolds

5 bolt downpipes

2.5" test pipes

doolz dual intake

88mm forged pistons and rods

740cc injectors

that lot is already on order

also thinking about

unorthodox pulley set

lightened flywheel & clutch

lightweight 1 piece propshaft

kyb adjustable shocks with eibach springs - am after firmer suspension without too badly compromising everyday driving or lowering too much

AEM EMS (quite expensive though) is it worth it anyone?

the brakes are already sorted along with greddy smic`s and koyo rad

GT675RS turbos

MSP manifolds

5 bolt downpipes

2.5" test pipes

doolz dual intake

88mm forged pistons and rods

740cc injectors

do you mind me askin how much all this cost? pm me if you dont want to post it up on here, how much power do you expect from that lot?

a fortune lol getting most of it from Z1 here (clicky linky) makes sense with the strength of the £££ i think

as for power I`d be happy with 400-450...............for starters ;) then we will see what happens after that, might go for a bit of head work etc when the time comes

hmmmmm i just made myself a little list and it comes to around £6k, i need a better job :slap:

guys, i have a problem!!!!!!!

I was driving along tonight when my oil pressure suddenly dropped to literally f**k all!!!! So i stopped and popped the bonnet.

AND FOUND OIL ALL OVER MY BATTERY AND PASSENGER SIDE OF MY ENGINE!!!

I nearly cried!!!

Im seriously hoping that its just a popped hose rather than a head gasket gone, although once i restarted it, the pressure sat at 1.5 kg/cm cubed for the next 12 miles.

And to make matters worse......................

When i got back home, a couple of my mates came round and had a look underneath with me........and one of them reckon that the big end bearing could be knackered!

I'm gonna take it to a local garage tomorrow and see if they can find the source of the oil leak and gimme some thought of the slight knocking noise!

If they cannae do anything with it.........looks like rebuild time has come early!!!

worse case is your crank case is pressurising caused by piston,ring/land failure.your oil loss was probaly out of the dipstick tube.or you may have just not put the dipstick back in properly.on the n/s exhaust camshaft rocker at the rear is a breather elbow which can blow out under boost and spray oil over the battery.a stuck pcv valve can also cause oil to blow out the dipstick.fingers crossed its the latter.

Jimmer, your a complete legend mate!!!!

What would be needed if its the crank case pressurising??? Rebuild???

At the end of the day, i wont really be that gutted if that is what's needed. I've totally fallen in love with this car and will do whatever it needs!

Was looking at upping the bhp anyway......and to get to what i was looking at, it involves a rebuild anyway!

Hi Mate,if it is piston/ring or land failure its rebuild time buddy :smash: .the perfect time to tell the missus oh well its gone bang now so i may as well get started. :D

  • Author

nah....im only 22.....dinnae have a missus yet!!!!! Woop Woop!!!!!

im not sure if i can ask this, but how much am i looking at for a standard rebuild??? would i be right in thinking £5K should cover it????

the reason these cars cost so much to rebuild and modd is when the engine goes you think ooh well rebuild engine.....but after that expense you can,t really bolt the 15 yr old turbo,s on a new engine and watch them blow up later so it costs u another 2k for uprated turbo's plus £700 for clutch and flywheel while its out/engine loom £350 as old un is brittle new hoses etc where they are perrished and laichbour on top so when a guy pays 3 k for his zed and looks a spending in exess of 8k just to fix it with small upgrade it offputting for most people unless ur nuts like most of us on here lol,

r

5k will cover an engine rebuild to better than standard spec easy without cutting any corners.it all depends how far you want to go.youll want decent forged pistons for peace of mind which can be bought for less than a set of nissan oversize ones. The rest of the performance parts is where your 5k vanishes very quickly.injectors, tubs, down pipes etc.

  • Author

yup........the clutch couldn't have been fitted that long ago, the oddometer is only sittng at 64880 (and most of that is in km)....

But yeah, i can understands where the expense soon mounts up!

  • Author

was thinking forged pistons and uprated conrods.....erm, pretty sure id wanna change the turbo's. Kirbz mentioned something about getting "5-bolt turbo's" when i was looking for what upgrades id need to reach 500bhp.

Just as a thought, can the injectors be changed at a later date???? say, after the engine has been rebuilt and refitted???

5 bolts would be the only minimum turbo at attain 500 bhp bud, yes you can fit injectors later on if you wish, as labour for this isn't a great deal.

Conrods arn't really required, bottom end parts are all forged except the pistons, so have the block checked out and fit new pistons, oil pump and the usuall 120k service items. 5 K would do all you need ;)

smithy

  • Author

so you reckon that i'd get away with running standard con rods????

Would buying the engine rebuild kit from smithy's place would be most of the parts that would need to be changed?
