I'd wait and see what happens, if their computer thinks your taxed unitll then there is no way they will know otherwise! Just dont pay for tax again!

:D ..... love it!

I've printed it off.... taken print screens! (and in all honesty according to the disc in the window - its due end of Sept) but by fook i aint paying - I wondered why I never got a V11

bunch of monkeys! :D:D

Thing is you will be parked in town and some jobs worth traffic warden will take a photo of your tax disk and next thing you know they will be round with there crusher.

Will be interesting to see what happens. Keep us all informed.

Darrell

sure will keep ya informed!

Me vs The DVLA

I had a little row with the good old DVLA for three years that ended last month.

They would never remove a car from my name. I go through 5 or more cars a year so after three years this was getting a problem every month them sending bills to say i still owned car i didn't and i have not taxed them.

I sent letter after letter and all they would do would be to send out a letter back to me saying

"Thankyou for your letter informing us you no longer own the cars XYZ. What you need to do is send us in writing that you no longer own these cars."

How can you win with arguments like that!

So I just thought sod it, I've made every reasonable atempt to get this rectified so I'll just let them take me to court and i'll let a judge see how crap they are. So thats what i did.

Turned up with all my letters I sent them and their stupid replies, he just threw it out.

Suddenly I have all these letter from the DVLA saying "Thank you for letting us know your not the keeper of cars XYZ, they have been registard to the new keeper"

Funy that.

Even back in the '60s, there was a "joke"

Q - how do you confuse the DVLC? (as it was then)

A - ring them up and ask them what day it is.

(Little bit of political satire there  )

Fine for non display of a tax disc provided its taxed is anything between £60 - £200 (depends who is fining you ;) )

Fine for not taxing a vehicle £200 from above + £80 + insurance not valid (fine for that) etc

So knowing the above I wondered what would happen if like someone said a warden spotted the out of date disc and did his duty blah blah… would I have a leg to stand on, because as far as the DVLA’s records are concerned, my vehicle is taxed for 200 years.

Contacted someone who’s a bit more clued up on the law than me and apparently I’d be done for it because even though the system on the DVLA says I’m taxed for the next 200 years, I haven’t paid the 35K for those 200 years.

Off to tax the vehicle …. Suckers!

Even though the DVLA computer says that you're taxed, you still have to display the tax disc in the vehicle.

A woman in Croydon has just come back from her holidays to find her car missing from outside her house. Further enquiries revealed that the council had towed the car and had it crushed because she was not displaying her tax disc! She swears that it was there when she went away and could only assume it had been stolen. Council say they're not liable and her insurance won't pay out either

why now, when, they have a vehicle recognition facility and a flawless database  do you still have to even display a tax disc, rather prehistoric in todays day and age but i guess its remained in place as another avenue to go down in their quest to screw the motorist.

Yearbook of road transport law 2007

Display of disc

It is an offence not to display the tax disc on the left hand side of the windscreen. The maximum penalty for failure to display a disc is £200 even it a disc has been applied for or obtained. This includes vehicles entitled to VED exemption failing to display a £nil disc.

Penalties

A fine of £80 reducing to £40 is if paid within 28 days is payable for failing to relicence a vehicle, under the system of continuous registration (CR) which commenced in January 2007, it is not necessary for your vehicle to be sighted on the public road for an offence to have been committed .DVLA now has the authority to carry out enforcement action against the registered keeper directly from information held on the vehicle licence records The law allows 14 days from the date the licence was due in which to re-licence. SORN declarations are only required if the vehicle is going to be kept off the road.

Her disc probably expired whilst she was on holiday and went over the 14 days grace period.

No, the DVLA computer showed it as taxed. Council simply didn't check it :xxx:

monkeys!

So They Can Crush Your Car Even If It Is Taxed, But You Have Forgotten To Put The Disc Up?

Surely They Are Required To Send Warnings Before Taking This Ridiculous Action?

Id be suing them without a doubt.
