Hi everyone, i last left a post when i was looking for a 300zx tt.

I am now the proud owner of a MINT condition stock 300zx with 59K miles.

I love everything about this car and i don't think i will have another car that is not a 300zx again. I have wanted this car since i was five and now i am 21 and have my 300zx twin turbo dream a reality. I am interested in becoming a member too. Saw someone in stock last weekend in his Z and he flashed me kindly. I got the automatic as i was getting stressed with looking for a good condition manual. My wife (who hates cars) actually loves it but says the only reason is because its a semi convertible and she can get out of junctions alot easier hehe. anyway i was wondering what kind of miles you could get out of a full tank without thrashing it? Alo i have a wierd noise coming from my zed. The engine and turbos are fine and i followed your guide when viewing this Fairlady but this noise is confusing. when i start the engine it starts first time evrytime without fail or hesitaton. no noises what so other but after i have driven somewhere and come to a stop there is kind of like a lurping noise coming from either side of the car right next to the doors?????

it didnt make the noise last night which had me baffled but i noticed that my hicas light stays on some mornings ( some not) until i start driving. After reading this i though maybe the fluid is low. steering is still light but i was wondering if this slurping is the hicas trying to get some fluid from the front of the car? Like i said last night it didnt do it and when opening the bonnett it doesnt come from the engine. it doesnt seem to be bad at the moment however i would like to get it done now to be on the safe side

Congrats on the purchase.

slurping noise is most likely the AIV valves full of water. They are behind the front wings. There are guides on here for AIV removal which detail how to drain them.

Hello Damien and welcome to the Club - we are a crazy but mostly friendly bunch!

In answer to your questions:

HICAS light: this is more than likely due to a low fluid level. When cold the fluid triggers the switch, once warmed up the fluid expands in volume and the light goes out.

Gurgling noice: this is quite common. The AIV valves get water-logged and as air is passing through it causes the gurgling noice. The water can be removed by drilling small holes in the bottom of the tube leading to the AIV valves or you can remove the system in its entirety. Do a search for these valves and a write up will appear.

Fuel range: This entirely up to the style of driving, condition of the car and condition of the tires. I once managed a full 480 miles on a tank of petrol (something which unfortunately never happened again no matter how hard I tried). Under normal driving conditions (and assuming your car is in perfect working order) you should be able to average around 20mpg's. On the motorway it can increase to around 30mpg - so not too bad for a 3L twin turbo!

Any further questions - feel free to ask!

All the best,

Dan

Thankyou LEGRATH and DTA (UK)

i feel like a part of the family already. I will look at this info tonight. Luckily my friends uncle has worked for nssan for the last 25 years or something like that so he will service it after i do this litle job you mentioned. How much is subsription? also i know i may seem young to everyone but i have loved this car ever since it was launched so not really into modding it. it came with an after market wide view zenon kit but im happy with that as they are quite nice. ( only thing is headlights and foglights seem different colour now hehe) Does anyone live in essex. I live in chelmsford and have seen a few zeds(maybe some people who are members)? anyway i would like to again say thankyou for greeting me and look forward to being a proper member.

Think Danny - DTA above - can sort you out with some new bulbs which will closer resemble the colour of your headlights...

Don't worry about your age - I was 21 when i got mine!! You'll only get shit if you mod it up, don't service it then sell it as a wreck in 6 months!! Good luck with the car - sounds like you've fund a good'un!

Subs is £20/ year - £15 renewal thereafter... well worth it, if only for the amount of tech advice & information it opens up.

Yeah i intend to look after this. I just love all the gadgets these cars have and i like the fact that after 20 years none of the cloth and leather trim rips or fades. extremely please with the car and gave up all my other online gaming hobbies so i can put money aside for repairs and maintanance

Welcome,I too reside in your town..you may have seen me..maybe not. :) It`s well worth joining our little club you won`t regret it,invaluable advice and support..plus if you join you can p.m me if you need any help or advice as we`re local.I`ll keep an eye out for ya!

Welcome bud , sounds like you,ve got a nice motor , get some piccies up so we can all see

I just filled my tank today - 65litres = 295 miles :wack:

People must drive their zeds carefully cos i only get 150 miles on a tank - and that aint a joke. :wack:

Hi and welcome....

I use my Zed to go to and fro to Aylesbury where I work. 82 miles each way.... M6, M42 Variable Speed Limit section, M40, A 41. I cruise fast, accelerate fast etc and still get about 300 miles from a full tank. You must use either Ultimate from BP or Optimax from Shell though.

For a more economical drive swith the auto box to HOLD and just drive gently

You could then get about 350 miles to a tank. Mind you, you can blow a third of a tank just driving round Birmingham on a Saturday in traffic !

Christ,I`m lucky then! last long trip in my tt got me bout 400miles out of a full tank,we were taking it easy though just cruisin at 70-80

hello all. and hello to santa. glad to hear you live in chelmsford too. i live in tile kiln (between great baddow and galleywood) i will post some pictures for those to see. i spent an hours trying to clean it as i had no polish. Had my colledge course today and on the way back this sporty range rover give it some on the A12. Naturaly i put my fut down as he was blatently challenging me. Was a bit of fun but i gave up after my limit kicked in at about 120 ish so he left me after that :-( oh well still happy with it lol. I have this wide view zenon kit on it which is kinda kewl but when travelling back tonight i realised i couldnt see F**k all ( about a car in front of me) i got home and look at headlights and realise that the main headlamps arnt on. the fog lights work and the side lights in the main light holding works but not main headlights. hmmmmm could this be the kit? might have to try a bulb out tommorrow me thinks. what colour and spec is your zed santa? i will look out for it ^^

done a little experiement, driving like daisy ( short shifiting and staying off boost ) with £15 of fuel ( not how I normaly drive !!) and got 80 miles, so not tooo bad

Miles to the tank depends on how brave you are after the little orange light comes on! Tank is 72 litres / 15.8 gals. I've never put more than 63l/13.8g. (There's a big risk of damage if you let the fuel system run dry so don't play chicken with your petrol light.)

On my TT manual mpg varies from 16 to 25 with average 20 so best miles per fill-up was around 300. On my NA auto it's 20 to 28 av 24 and best per fill around 350.

I`m just round the corner from you fella.Mines a black uk tt,ya see if you subscribe you can securely give me your number and can help you with ur lights should you need a hand, have learnt quite a bit about these cars now and what goods knowledge if it isn`t shared eh?
