Had a new auto box in the Zed today, now I know the ECU has to re-learn but are these symptoms normal!?

1. Gear makes first change at 7,000 RPM (if at all, sometimes it doesnt change)

2. Can only change the gear manual by driving to 3000 RPM and pressing "Hold", this changes the gear (sometimes, other times the revs go up but no speed)

3. Occasionally when driving revs just go higher, no more speed.

4. Performance seems crap.

5. Not sure if 2nd gear is there!? When driving in "1" then going to "2", the revs stay where they are they dont go lower or higher.

Any thoughts?

Also, when driving, if i take my foot off the accelerator, the revs drop to idle speed?

check the fluid (atf) do you mean NEW auto box or A box, going on those symtoms and persuming the fluid is correct level then it dont sound good mate

I mean A box, had it done by a guy off here (since the problem occured he has been spot on trying to help me and will fit a new box if it carries on) this afternoon.

then untill he passes judgement ide leave it off the road incase you do damage to it ;)

Just disonnected the battery to reset ECU. how long should i leave it? I have read that this has been known to sometimes fix auto shifting problems? Am hoping that the problem is the new gearbx ecu not talking to my engine ecu properly, then they can re-learn together!

So do I, only had it put in today!!!

No how you feel mate, been there, went through 3 autoboxes & 1 did not work at all even after changing T/C :(

then done a manual conversion, best thing i did :)

Was it a 'new' box, rebuilt or second hand used.

bet it dont go inti od top either.

could be wiring fault as the harness gets brittle etc. broken wire is my bet?

if box known to be good before.

could be ecu? but doubt it. do below first.

you need to get a pin test done on all the wires and connectors.

do thst first before changing box again.

do you get error code flashing on power light when you switch on, 16 I think.

if so then you can do auto diaognostic check. by moving g lever.

See http://www.300zx.org.uk/

site for how to do this.

best of luck

Auto Transmission Diagnostic:

If you automatic transmission is acting erratically, may it be shifting too hard, shifting too late, shifting too early, etc. try the diagnostic to isolate the problem. The diagnostic, like the main computer diagnostic, may show an error code if it reads a sensor or circuit that is not within factory specs. If the problem is mechanical, the diagnostic won't show it. If it's electrical, then the diagnostic gives a general idea where to start looking to correct the performance.

Procedure:

1. Have the engine at normal operating temperature, in P with the overdrive switch on.

2. Start engine. The AT light (1.) should go out after 2 sec.

3. Turn the ignition off.

4. Move selector to drive D by using the Push Release button (2.). If not equipped, use the brake pedal

5. Set overdrive switch to OFF.

6. Wait 2 seconds and turn ignition switch ON.

7. Wait 2 seconds and move selector to 2.

8. Set overdrive switch to ON.

9. Move selector to 1.

10. Set overdrive switch to OFF.

11. Depress accelerator pedal fully and release it.

12. The codes will begin to flash. Theres one long flash that signifies the start of the sequence. Following should be 10 short flashes. Then it repeats.

1.

2.

Error Codes:

All 10 flashes the same = No error codes detected.

1st flash longer than others = Revolution sensor is shorted or disconnected.

2nd flash longer than others = Speed sensor circuit is shorted or disconnected.

3rd flash longer than others = Throttle sensor circuit is shorted or disconnected.

4th flash longer than others = Shift solenoid "A" circuit is shorted or disconnected

5th flash longer than others = Shift solenoid "B" circuit is shorted or disconnected

6th flash longer than others = Overrun clutch solenoid circuit is shorted or disconnected

7th flash longer than others = Lock-up solenoid circuit is shorted or disconnected

8th flash longer than others = Fluid temperature sensor is disconnected or A/T control unit power source circuit is damaged.

9th flash longer than others = Engine revolution signal circuit is shorted or disconnected

10th flash longer than others = Line pressure solenoid circuit is shorted or disconnected

All the same with no long start flash = Battery low, been disconnected, or control unit has just been reconnected.

got rice?

ECU reset didnt repair, still revs go higher and no speed and the various other roblems!!

I beleive it is 2nd gear it wont locate, as there is only 1 gear change that is noticeable, and th revs are too low to be 2nd.

I can get it into 3rd manually though, but setting off in Drive and then tapping the accelerator at 4K RPM, then it drops straight in!? Weird!!!

Just peed off, want a driveable car, but at the moment, its not really.

Any more thoughts appreciated!

Need to do tests as suggested, also could be speed sensor on box, but I doubt it.

Could be your TPS needs adjusting ? longshot but you never know
