Just like to say thanks to all those members that turned up at the weekend and ensured the re-scheduled Billing event was a big success. The weather was perfect all weekend and only goes to back up the ZClubs decision to cancel Billing in July. I for one am convinced it was the correct decision.

Even after three years in the club, I still met many new members. In fact, I reckon there were more people at the event that I hadn't met, than there were those that I had. Duffers, Saz, Crotchrocket, Rag Top Rob, Ceejay, ShelZX and many more.

I must take this opportunity to say a special thankyou to Steve Burns and Derek Sulley (and the rest of the ZClub Committee) for their efforts in organising the event at Sherbrooke Scout Camp. I know they put in a lot of time organising their 30th birthday bash. I thought the location was perfect. The facilities were spot on. There were toilets and shower facilities and more important, we had access to a kitchen for communal breakfasts. Speaking of food; once again, I must say another special thankyou to Darren (Madhammster). He grafted his pods off again this year, cooking right through the Saturday night and was up first thing Sunday morning making breakfast for everyone who stayed over. He stayed until right into the Sunday afternoon, cooking on the BBQ. That's the third year running that Darren has offered his services to the club. Thanks Darren!!

This was the first joint event between the two clubs I had been involved in and I know I speak for many other 300ZX.co.uk members, by saying that it was great to have all the older, classic zeds alongside our Z32's. I hope this will be the first of many and look forward to joining together again in 2008. I have made friends with some really nice people from the ZClub, Steve Burns, Paul Wrangle, Suzy, Derek Sulley to name but a few.

I feel that both clubs will benefit from sharing knowledge and expertise between them. It seems pretty clear to me that, in terms of a car club, the ZClub are in a different league, whereas, we have greater strengths in our forum.

Yep if it was you who washed your car it certainly would have been - you never do it! LOL

Also congratulations to all other winners!!! All worthy without a doubt!!!

And for the rest, you have something to aim for next year ;) I won 2 without even having a Z on the road so no excuses guys LOL  ;)

Can I suggest an extra award for next year to be added? Most innovative idea/way of doing a job? There's a lot of people on here with some great ideas and it would be nice to give some credit for their time and effort :)

Cheers,

Andy

You need to bear in mind that we have over 600 subscribed members in this club and about 30-40 bothered to attend the weekends event, knowing that the event included the 300ZX.co.uk annual awards.

It's the same people winning the awards every year now and TBH it's a little pointless. I spent almost £600 this year (of members money) on trophies. At one point on the Saturday afternoon, we had more trophies than we had cars to nominate. It did improve a little on the Sunday.

If more members attended I'm sure Smithy. Jason Farrow and myself would not have won the trophies we did.

We will have to review this spend next year, as I feel it wasn't money well spent. I know other Committee members think the same.

I keep banging on about this but at the end of the day, it's true. The club is only as good as it's members.

Still the bottom line is; do Smithy, Jason and myself feel guilty because of the trophies we were awarded. I would say definately not. We didn't vote for our cars. The members who attended voted.

EDIT:

Not having a go at you here Si, more of a go at everyone really. Just disappointed with the way the awards went. With over 600 members, one member should not walk away with several trophies but, like I said, who's fault is that? The trophy winner or the masses that didn't come along with their cars to make a more worthwhile competition?

dont feel guilty steve, or anyone else. The rules were winners had to be in attendance. I have to say it was great to have he annual gathering in the northern counties, those that turned up got a chance to get an award, those that didnt really do not have any reason to complain (not saying you are Si9

Its easy - no show up, no complain!!!!

I agree 100% Andy.

Just makes a bit of a mockery of the whole competition, when we have 26 trophies to award between about 30 cars.

can i add at this point for future awards. It was very difficult to realise whos car was whos and i had people wanting to nominate asking me who the particular cars belonged to. I know saiko racer put his club card on the rear view mirror. This is a good idea as votes might have been lost due to annonymous cars. Maybe in future to be considered for awards Club ID needs to be prominent on the vehicles, just a suggestion!

Yes Sarah, definately something we can improve.

I know when Chunk was NEO, he made some tax disc holders (JAE '05) with members forum names, so they could be stuck inside the front screen of cars. That seemed to work very well.

He just got a list of all members who were attending and wrote their names with black marker pen on the disc.

These are the little things that help us be a little more professional. But something any member could offer to do in the future.

as discussed Steve, only too willing to help, wherever i can.

Steve and Jason, are not only paid up members, they also have 2 of the nicest cars on this forum, and irrespective of them being on the committee, they both deserved to win.

As Andy said, if you couldnt be bothered to turn up and vote, then you have a bloody cheek moaning about who won!

It would only take 3 minutes with the number of cars/people that turned up this year lol

I would like to have gone to it, but unfortunately I was mid-way over the North Atlantic at the time. :)
