I'm having my car resprayed within the next month - colour change. My preference is to have the front and rear glass removed for a quality job.

What have other people done?

My windscreen is chipped - so i'll get it replaced under insurance. But, if I have the rear window removed are the (expensive) seals re-usable or will they need replacing?

They could fook up,depends on the fitter!-we use RAC windscreens and they garantee to replace anything they break! :)

Do RAC offer a removal/fitting service seperate from supplying glass? Any ideas how much they charge?

Yes they do-it's what we use em' for!-don't know about charges tho',give em' a bell! :)

Rear window seals and trim are a horrendous price iirc for what they are.funki had his replaced when his car was done.15 year old baked window rubbers dont tend to re fit nice once they are removed.

i wanted to do the same take my windows out for a better job but once i priced the windows up in case they broke as i was told more than likely they would! i quickly changed my mind i was quoted about £645 fitted from auto glass and that was with 10% off for being a AA member. if you have a decent sprayer who knows wot they are doing you shouldnt notice the difference.

the rear seals need to be changed. I didnt take mine out when I had mine done, and TBH I wish I did now as the seals look shit.

i changed mine, the new one is so easy to get in , taking the old one out was a bit of a pain as they snap when you pull them

Did you remove the window or manage to change the seals with the window in place? Did you replace with Nissan seals or a generic one?

ooo..... interesting a ZX ethusiast who is also a sprayer from Norfolk ;)

Do you run your own buisiness? And welcome to the club.

When I had mine repainted, all the window trims and rear seal were removed by me.

But, there are 4 sections to this, the top plastic trim, the main rubber weatherstrip and the two corner tabs. The two corner tabs and plastic trim on top can only be replaced with the rear screen removed. It is possible to replace the lower rap around weatherstrip without removing the screen which is what I had done.

If I'd have had the cash and time, I'd have taken all the windows out (but mine was a blow over rather than a full respray) and replaced the windows with UK spec windows which have a blue tint as opposed to the brown tint of the JDM versions.

If you're replacing all the bits on the rear screen then the parts amass to something in the region of a rather hefty £250+. I know that the rear wrap around bit was something like £70, the main plastic trim thing on the top is about £170 and the two trim tabs are £10 each.

Thanks for yor reply. I have spoken to the bodyshop who have recommended if possible to remove the rear window for the best quality job. If the rear window is removed do all the rear seals and trim automatically need replacing or can they be reused? Do any non-nissan seals fit as well as OEM?

Pretty sure the top ones can be reused, as it's just plastic, but the main weather strip will need replacing for sure. They go hard and brittle and loose shape.
