Since I got my car back from Ztech, it hasn't been boosting right. Positive boost doesn't really get going until about 4.5k revs and peaks at about 5psi (aftermarket gauge, Profec B switched off). Having spoken to other owners with T28 tubs, there is deffo something amiss :(

I've only driven the car once since my leaking injector was fixed, and whilst trying to diagnose the boost issue, something metallic pinged off under the car at "full" boost (could have been something on the road but I suspect the car dropped something that was badly fitted). I got home, parked it up in my garage, locked the doors and left it there...

I've booked my Zed for it's MOT tomorrow and thought I'd better check fluids, battery etc.. today. She started fine but on revving the engine, she's making a raspy sound like a blowing exhaust under the rear passenger side of the plenum. I'm guessing that a turbo hose has popped off..

Has anyone got any suggestions or ideas before I jack her up and take a look underneath? Would really appreciate some advice

I love my zed and really want to rekindle my enthusiasm for her. If she'd passed the MOT I was hoping to get to the AGM this weekend, but looks unlikely now.. :(

Yours depressed,

Steve :(

It might not run correctly to get through the mot, your best solution maybe to get an 02 sensor asap, I have a spare one here steve that you can pick up whenever you want, but will need it replaced as it is for my car!

Nice one Mark - I may take you up on that! Are there any other connectors or bolts I'll need or does the sensor screw straight into the elbow?

Make sure the connector is still there for it, looks similiar to the coil pack connector, near the pcv valve on the underside of the plenum?

LOL - I am the king of misinformation!

I hooked the car up to Conzult to check the O2 readings and they were both varying nicely with revs. Pass side was showing lean owing to the leak I guess..

Back under the car, closer inspection revealed that the hole is ACTUALLY on the T28 tub. Further investigation showed the wastegate adjustment rod is lose and no longer connected to the tub. You guessed it - the hole is where the adjustment rod should be attached :(

Any suggestions? Off to slit my wrists in a mo... :(

Shit sorry to hear that bud, sounds a bit catastrophic :(

Who supplied the turbos?

Who supplied the turbos?

They were Jock's old ones Mark. Ryan bought them for "another customer" who backed out of the deal. As a result I never even laid eyes on them - just dropped my car at Ztech and left things with him :( They weren't brand new but had been reconditioned...

I've got pretty good access to the wastegate rod and the mounting hole. Not sure I'll be able to get hold of the parts and if so, whether they can be installed in situ

If I block off the adjustment mounting hole I guess I'll need to stick the wastegate open to avoid damaging the turbo. Priority for me at the moment is just to get it through the MOT on Saturday.. :(

Thanks for all the advice so far - I really appreciate it

Thinking about it you may be able to get the parts, take the downpipe off and see what is involved in putting it back on, if you want a hand give me a shout?

I have an old turbo you take the parts off, might save you a bit of agro!

The wastegate poppet valve has come out???

LOL - arrrrgggh! It's worse than I'd imagined

If I bung the hole, do you think I can run it 2 miles off boost for the MOT and back?

What tub have you got Mark? I'm not sure of the differences  I've still got my old T25s sitting on the bench in the garage but these are provisionally sold ;)

Thanks bud - will see what Mark's got first and keep this on reserve

CheerZ fellas!

A pair of old t25's, not sure if they are the same!

Did you get my pm about the plenum andy?

Had some time today to try to fix my leaky tub. First I examined the T25 turbo and sure enough, the design is almost identical to the T28. However, the wastegate poppet valve (thanks Andy ;) ) should be connected through to the internal wastegate which I guess is now bouncing around freely inside and fooking my turbine blades :(

Less than 200 miles travelled since the turbos were installed and it's most likely engine out again and turbo off. Fook me I'm sooo pissed off  On the plus side, maybe I can get the work done properly this time round...

Thanks for all the help and advice offered so far. It doesn't look like this is going to get sorted out any time soon though....

I doubt if the poppet valve would have fubared your turbo steve, in fact it is probably lodged in your exhaust somewhere!

The next step is to get the downpipe off bud and have a look for the poppet valve, double check the tub of course!

Thanks Mark - I'll try to get around to that soon ;)

Meanwhile, managed to pass the MOT retest this morning. Managed to bodge the turbo leak with some exhaust tape  But at least she's running (slowly!) now and I might even get my arse to the the SC meet on the 28th!
