For the last few weeks the Z has started dropping revs (200 or so rpm) every time I push the accelerator then picks up again and seems to work fine. The idle hasn't been perfect recently either.

Then this morning I started it up and was running slightly rougher than it has been, I left it running while taking the targas off and noticed black smoke along with a very strong smell of fuel. I then tried moving it outside the house to take a closer look at it, it moved 5 yards then stopped and won't start again.

I'm guessing this is the PTU.

Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

Thank you

Dave

I've just checked the ECU and am getting a code 13, I flushed the coolant a few days ago so I'll go and fiddle with the connector in a minute. But I can't see that causing my other problems.

Okay another quick update

I've just cleaned the contacts on the temp sensor, and tried starting the car, after a lot of hesitation it fired up with a very rough idle +/- 250rpm. The electric fan was permanently on, so I let it run upto temperature. At 70DegC (Greddy gauge) the electric fan cut off, and by this time the idle had also started to calm down to +/- 20rpm (On digital rev counter) although it was quite high at about 950rpm. Other than that it sounded quite normal. I couldn't smell any fuel by the exhausts and there was no smoke.

I would still like to work out what caused all of this so I will be giving DTA a ring this week. Does anyone have any other suggestions.

Also how would I check the injectors were working or not?

If fan on then defo temp sensor try claening again. if no good after that get dif sensor. that thing upsets so much to give uneven runing.

Temp sensor connector without a doubt!

realy? I have teh same issues but no error code.

Can of coke time it is

How much is a new temp sensor and connector?

And does anyone happen to have the part numbers?

id say give Mike Feeny a ring. MrF

Identical problem here, mine turned out to be the temp sender too(not the black smoke part of the problem though)

Im sure the hard idle switch will give this fault also.the tps has two plugs, one is the idle switch iirc and can play up and cause engine stumble when the throttle is pressed.

I found these earlier if they help TPS, IAA

In fact you have already posted in those 2 links

There is also a tech article on the aus 300 forum on the cleaning of the IAA

I'll be trying these as soon as I get the new temp sender from Mr F

Doubt the sender needs replacing or even the connector. Get it on a consult and see what engine temperature the ecu is seeing once warmed up :)

bloody typical, I ordered a new one earlier.

Oh well what's £26~, the fan was turning on/off as I was fiddling with the connector
