Right, here comes the really annoying question all you lucky drivers are waiting for. Which Z shall i buy ?! :headvswal

I used to drive a mk2 mr2 turbo, spent a shead load on her, and loved it. Had to sell my baby when i went traveling, and now im looking to buy a 300!

Now, I know there are so many variations of the mr2, and im sure the same can be said for these motors aswell, Thing is, i have not one clue of the different trims/engines available.

If one of you guys could lend a hand that would be cool, or point me in the right direction, as im sure this gets asked all the time.

A little idea as to prices wouldnt go a miss either :) Cheers

Hi Guys, thanks for the welcomes, been having a look around and some of your cars look awsome....nice work.

If they do a manual turbo...im there, deffo want a turbo, cant be without one after my 2, and has to be a manual i know, no messing about with these damned auto boxes.

Do you get T-Bar Z's ?, leather ?, any change in power / trim by year ?....

^^Yep...

Manual TT... Or if you prefer some additional petrol in you tank, a manual N/A.:D

Check out the buyer's guide on the previous page posted by 300zx girl.

Start at 3.5 - 4k for a decent runner.

Any further advice needed, just ask on here. :)

Yes to the above! :D

Leather, cruise control, air con 4 wheel steering, abs all round... And nigh on 300bhp for a car that weighs a 1000kgs...

As standard! ;o)

there is long wheel base (2+2) twin turbos targa (could be uk or import)

2+2 non turbo targa (import only)

there is SWB (2 seater) targa twin turbo (import only

SWB non turbo

SWB slicktop (no targa's) twin turbo (not sure if they do a non turbo in a SWB slicktop)

there is also a convertible

all can be auto or manwell

im sure there are more models but that is all i can think of lol

I wish mine only weighed that!!! add on about 600kg to that figure and it'll be about right.

just go and look at few have a drive, get a feel for them and get the one in best nick, save mountains in the long run.

Hi Glen.

1600 kgs!?

Do you have lead wheels or something m8?

When reading up on the Zed, i was under the immpression they were 1000kgs... Hence hitting the 'majic' 300bhp per ton.

No doubt someone will post accurate figures!

lol

Anyway...What ever! Not bothered! :D

I'm off for a :duffer: or two!

We all have lead wheels then because - yes, the Z weighs 1600k's lol

Slcik tops are a bit lighter.... Remember the Targa has a chassis made of girders to keep up the torsional rigidity! (Much like a convertible)

1000kg I wish! There is always confusion between the Z32 and F40 lol

haha you know it was only the other day that someone said "love your ferrari", pity i had to correct them and tell them it was a MORE unreliable model made by nissan....

Similar engine technology tho... sort of!

Cheers Guys.

Ok decided defo has to be tubby manual.. thats 100%. Not too fussed if 2 or 2+2 seats, they seam to look pretty similar in size anyhows, but i would get away with not being a taxi service with only a 2 seater.

Leather would be nice !, t-bar would be nice, but could live without.

What sort of power could i be looking at with basic mods (decat, filter, exhaust system, up boost a little etc)

and are these motors reliable (normaly)

(was looing at rx7's you see but they are no good when it comes to running everyday, and my pockets aint that deep)

oh, and how much do u huys pay insurance, i got a quote for around 400 on elephant

400 is a good quote mate. I pay about that 3rd party. Power is about 300bhp at the crank as standard. How far you goes depends on how high the boost is set at. The standard ceramic tubs disintegrate when you approach 1 bar (think its actually less than that? but can't remember. do a search and there's loads of people asking that question).

As for reliability its a mixed bag and a bit of a mine field. My last Zed needed nothing other than a MAF replacing in the year I had it. The last owner had done just about everything possible that might have needed doing. My current one has needed about £1k spent on a clutch, heater matrix, and various tart it up bits. The engines themselves are very strong, but also extremely complicated and a nightmare to work on. I've got a later model Rx7 and I spend more for general maintainance on the Zed. You just need to make sure they have had everything already done because parts and labour are expensive. Lots of things are hard to do yourself (turbos is an engine out job). Most things will need doing at 80-100k miles:

Clutch £300 + £200 labour

Turbos £1500-£2000

Exhaust £450

rad £270 + labour

heater matrix £230 + £250 labour unless you do it yourself

Not to put you off, just to say its a lot cheaper to get one where most of these things have already been done, and then have some money spare for any problems that might (and usually do) come up.

Whoa... Wtf!? Easy now!

Well.. Quote me a ****in duck...

I guess the info i read is wrong. :headvswal

I'll be a sceptical git when it comes reading everything that is written about a Zed.

:wack:
