I want to flush my coolant system due to some recent leaks and being topped up with straight water. But what coolant do I need to look for?

Any cheap coolant will do for a flush but you may as well use water for it, drain system and refill with propper coolant.

Forte coolant flushing products are v.good,as for coolant itself i`ve found the advanced coolant from halfrauds @15.99 works very well.

I dont now if that wetter water is anygood it ment to drop collant temp my a few dedgres .

Asda do a cheap-as-chips antifreeze for about £1.75 a litre....and it contains ethylene glycol. Do you need anything better than this?

Yes!

Why?

Cheapo unbranded oils, brake fluid, antifreeze etc may be all well and good on an old Metro but on a high performance car like the ZX I'd not recommend their use.

Always use premium grade lubricants and fluids. It is vital to keep the cooling system on a ZX operating at optimum efficiency - we all know how much heat is generated under the bonnet!

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

Nissan do a good ready mixed coolant and it's not that expensive.....

......surprisingly!

Richard :)

That is only 30/70 and not suitable for the 300ZX TT .....surprisingly.

OK well its not surprising.

The TT has water cooled Turbos which if you had a glass bonet and went for a real blast then got out of the car as soon as you stopped, you'd see that they where glowing Red like the embers of a fire. This means that the coolant in your car must have an extremely high boiling point our it would just turn to steam. Steam being a gas would not keep the turbos cool enough (+ presurise the cooling system etc) and the bearings would expand and wear/ or if run long enough would burn the oil and seize.

On a track day giving your car serious hammer Water temps off 110 C and oil themps of 120 C are comonly seen. so the oil in your Zed has to work much harder than your standard motor car + the reason for High Glycol to Water ratio is not because Glycol is a more efficient coolant than water, but because it has a much Higher boiling point so stay a stable liquid longer and therefor at higher temps works better, because it doesn't boil off. In my 1994 UK owners hand book it states a ratio of 70% glycol to 30% water.

Summer coolant sold in Halfords is good stuff The pink one. + Water wetter works fine with Glycol coolants

Really? I didn't know that :smash:

I thought they did 2 variants, one red and one green. I cannot remember which one is which, or which one Dan Perkins recommended but I no longer have it in mine anyway

Ah you've got me there because the last time I ever had Nissan sevice a car of mine was my Patrol because it was new and servicing was included in the purchase price for the first 12 months. That was in 1998/9 and they put blue stuff in my Patrol???

The Green stuff comes in 50 gallon drums and is 30/70. The pink suff I have never seen and know nothing about so I could be doing Mr Dealership a disservice, but I doubt it. most dealerships cut corners to make more proffits.
