Now before I get slated here...........................................

Seriously, how hard would this be?

does anyone know if there is a particular engine that would be easiest to do this with?

For example does anyone know if the gearbox would have to be changed or is there an engine out there that could work with most of the running gear of the Zed?

The reason I ask is that obviously the fuel economy of a zed is not great, but if all you are after is looks (and what better car to look great in?) why not?

The idea would be to use the car purely as an advert for a company - all logo'd up and driving around towns for people to see. Business wise the fuel economy of the Zed wouldn't add up, but if a diesel engine could be dropped into it relatively inexpensively what would the options be.

I'm not after some super-duper Twin Turbo diesel engine or anything, but something like a primera or avensis engine.

So ideas anyone?

It would still look like the first one, only it would sprint like the second one......and the sprinting isn't the determining factor in this one Si

Mind you it would probably eat as much as the first one and NOT the second one

Not until you heard it it wouldn't. Everyone would be scratching their heads wondering why is sounded so f**ked.

I could get a big exhaust to drown out the engine sound though!!

Or a big ICE system

It wouln't really be that bad.......would it?

There's a Mazda Friendy Bongo diesel thing I see quite regularly and it has large twin exhausts. It sounds absolutely hilarious.

so a 300ZX non performance car ...that´s a bit like a Lamborghini countach kit car with a VW 1300 engine ....I think I´d prefer the VW beetle with the Porsche 911 engine in it ...l agree with Si..it´s defeating the object of driving a Z...just my 2 pence worth

....but but but......

It is not about the driving.....it's all about the advertisement......the "other people looking at it" element.

Nothing, and I mean nothing to do with the driving of the car except fuel economy

Looking at it for the wrong reason no doubt.

colour depending it would get the "diesel smear" that black smudge up the bumper... lovly ;)

I know sod all about the mechanics of it, but if it's all about the looks rather than the performance, does that mean you'll just drive the car somewhere and park up, so that passers by will admire it (without hearing it)? If so, how much would you really save on the cost of driving it to wherever you park it? How long will it take to break even?

On the other hand, if you intend to drive it around as a mobile advertsement, I can see that it might take less time to break even. But would it really have the effect you're hoping for? I think a fair number of people would watch (and hear) you drive by and say "that company doesn't even maintain its own cars. The thing sounds like shit." From your perspective, there's nothing negative in having a 300 that sounds like a diesel, and you understand why you're doing it. But, for most people who see & hear it, they won't understand and they won't be thinking "he's done a diesel conversion to save fuel costs". They'll just think your car is knackered or poorly maintained. That can't be the effect you're after.

If you did get the diesel conversion, have you calculated how many miles you'd have to drive before you broke even? And bear in mind the effect on its re-sale value. If you ever wanted to shift it, you'd probably have to break it, or sell it as a "no drivetrain" car, or keep it til it rots away.

Like I said, I know nothing about the mechanical issues. Sorry if it sounds negative, but I just see too many reasons why the idea might backfire on you.

Cheers for all the replys

I think a LPG - NA is really the only way to go with this one then.......if it ever gets done that is!!

Stick with the derv option, you could have a transit engine and box for 300 notes and it would certainly attract plenty off attention for the noise, it would be very slow mind, the vg30dett is quite a deep engine although it does not look like it when its in the bay so once everything is removed you should have a good bit of room to play with

Didnt Nissan do this already.........................I think they called it the 300ZX N/A ;) :slap: :mac1:

Oh dear, that's EVEN worse than the 2.7 Nissan unit. Would make for a truly appalling car. It would attract the wrong kinda off attention for sure.

I'm going to smack him in a minute..

lol, you want to know? So do i :D

I haven't used it since day one, the car burns oil faster than a diesal (appropriate really for this thread!) and i don't want to strain the engine any more than it is.

I was going to try it at bruntingthorpe but decided against going and knackering a halfway decent engine.

Jim said on 150 shot it was doing maybe 4 runs. That's not alot for 65 quid for a full tank lol
