...but......

...I'm looking into getting an ICE setup in my Zed as I only have the factory fitted speakers in there at the mo (and the back ones don't even work!). I do however have a Panasonic face-off cd player :hyper:

Anywho, I was wondering if any of you had recently had a good setup fitted including speakers/subs and the headunit itself and where/how much/etc...?

There are a list of things I was looking for as below (quite extensive!):

CD

HDD (to store the music rather than caryr it around)

Ipod interface

USB interface

Rearpark cam

Satnav

Motorised Touch screen (6-7")

Digital radio

Bluetooth connectivity

Remote function

Full speakers (front/back/sub) - I haven't a scoobies about speakers other than they come in diff sizes (lol :smw: ) However, I do know I don't want to sound like a chav. So prefer top quality incar sound with minimal outside...which I guess means sound insualtion in panels too....?

Basically looking for as many of these as possible for as cheap as possible! I got quoted £1400 for just the headunit and 2front speakers fitted from a local car audio specialist but does it really have to be this expensive?? Fleaby is looking VERY tempting... :x:

Try Bob . He's abit far from you but he does a top job, quite afew on here have used him in the past. He was a trader at one point.

£1400 just for headunit and speaker's fitting does sound ott but depends what gear there using.

http://www.talkaudio.co.uk - What they dont know isnt worth knowing. Give them a budget and a list and expect the best information you will ever find regarding ice car entertainment.

Most new headunits come with connectivity for different styles of media incl. ipod, bluetooth, hdd and a remote. If you are after crystal sound spend a large part on decent upfront components(sacrifice the back speakers; dont want to be paying for the passengers pleasure) and a good quality amp (Genesis Profile series are really good for components).

For an ipod, usb, hdd, satnav etc that you want you would be best going for a carputer as i would have thought it would be cheaper.

I built my carputer for about £600 all in.

Just out of interest what software are you using for you carputer, i have mine and was going to put XP on it but kinda thinking that there is better software for it as i dont need all of the computer functions, just Music Sat nav, maybe the odd Vid, the only reason for xp was cos i can connect to the wireless at home and have internet, but may as well sit in doors and use it ;)

These fellas have some forums and sell some software which looks quite good (never tried it myself though) called StreetDeck:

im running windows xp pro and road runner front end software.

As for uploading music to it, i use VNC remote software and control the carputer using my desktop inside the house. i use a 100mb cable connection as its a lot quicker than my wireless.

Diamond! Cheers for all the tips fellas!! At least I have alternatives to look into now! Still hoping to keep the cost minimal so will be VERY intersted to see these 'how tos..' once folks have had a chance to complete their projects!! Keep me posted if you can!!

Cheers!

just out of interest, is there anywhere that u can contact, give them the spec of what your wanting on your carputer (i.e. sat nav, able to store and play dvd's, stuff like that) and they'll make one up???

I'm no use with all this electrical stuff and would much rather pay for a professional to do it correctly!

Thanks for that Mario - is useful but I'm not sure it is capable of doing everything I want it to! I'd really like to have a chat with anyone that has done this carputer lark before...from scratch so I can pick their brains about sourcing hardware, fitting, software, features, etc....as I can't find anything on the net that's specific to the 300zx. The close to Berkshire or Staffordshire the better as well!!

Hope to hear from someone soon!

Yeah, I've sent him a pm and waiting on a reply. Hopefully he can help, but in the meantime thought I might pick some brains...
