Right then was at a cruise last night (got stopped by cops and giving a formal warning WAHEY!) And my mates were loving the Blow off valve in my car but they kept referring it as a Dump Valve and i kept having to say NO ITS NOT!!!!

So my Question is What is the difference or is it the same thing?I though dumpvalve was more linked to the Exhuast system where as blow off was more to do with the Turbos but then again i am a Mechanical Idiot :P

3 statements, 1 is right. Yes the original subject was Dump Valve / Blow - Off Valves as it says in thread title.

But it isn't true that DV/BOVs are better than recircs "above normal boost". They can be better where the airflow needed for v high boost (enough for ~600hp) exceeds what you can get through recircs. Technical ref is http://www.twinturbo.net/ttnetfaq/FAQpages/bov.html

 

A true 500+ (let alone 600) is rare as hens teeth despite many snake oil claims. I would guess there are maybe a small handful on this forum.

 

For everyone else, they're simply a way of getting a noise while reducing performance. And I'll put 50p on the fact that no-one (except maybe some of the genuine high bhp bods) actually knows the airflow through their dumps.

last time i got told to move on by a constable it was due to a girl with a beer mat tat deciding to bend over my bonnet in the middle of southend seafront... i decided to take some pics instead of run her over... now where did they go..... :hyper:

i got a set of dump valves ready to fit to my zed . i was going to fit them this week while the weather is good .. after reading these threads shall i fit them or shall i just leave it as it is ...

 

was looking forward to the hissssss when i changed gear ...

You could fit them to the wheelie bin parked outside. :)
