If it is i've never seen it. Interesting stuff. pity they couldn't pump the rear tyre of the convertible and give it a bit of a clean tho

I found this bit interesting for all the folk that moan about the "on the door seatbelts"

The 300zx was also reported by the United States Department of Transportation to be safer than other popular sports cars like the RX-7, Ford Mustang, Chevrolet Camaro, Pontiac Firebird, and the new Nissan 350Z in the event of a crash. This is due mainly to the advanced placement of the seatbelt being mounted on the door instead of on the body of the car.

Love to know how they came up with that one. I know which I would prefer in a crash.

Oh dear....

:hurl: and they did it to a 99spec too :mac1:

The ones on the door then obviously then - as the Dept of Transportation says that they are safer - I am inclined to agree with them, all the tests and technology - why would you doubt it?

I have read loads of threads on this one, but I cant really see any great disadvantage with them being on the door.

I cant see any advantages, and cant see how they can be any safer than on the B-pillar, they wont work any differently.

Disadvantages-

1. If you crash and are unconcious rescuers can not open the door to help you !

2. What if in an accident the door gets ripped off (yes it happens)

3. It makes putting a baby in a childseat in the front very difficult (have to do it through window)

4. You or passenger get strangled when somebody opens your door

The Uk never got them on the doors and Japan moved them to the B-pillars in 1993. They were only ever put on the doors to meet some sort of regulation in the U.S regarding the way seatbelts should be designed so that you get in the car with the belt on, but the belts never worked that way properly and that regulation was soon dropped anyway.

Disadvantages-

1. If in a crash door it ripped off i(yes it happens) - your dead.

eeeemmmm.....how exactly?

2. If you crash and are unconcious rescuers can not open the door to help you

rescuers would be equipped to deal with tools like a hammer and a stanley....alot of car automatically lock for safety now when the ignition is turned on.....so they wouldn;t be able to simply open the door in that case anyway.

3. It makes putting a baby in a childseat in the front very difficult (have to do it

through window)

Nonsense.....you just put the baby in shut the door and lean over from your side, grab the buckle and pull it round to the clip.

4. You or passenger get strangled when somebody opens your door

Nonsense again, the door opens about 2" before the waist band part stops it going any further......the neck part is moving away from the body.

LOL, yeh I always carry a Hammer and stanley with me in case Im involved in or witness a accident  and the doors that lock with ignition also unlock in the event of an accident!

THats fine if child is too young/old that it wont wriggle and fall/get out of its seat in the meantime, and even so its not exactly convenient.

ok, not strangle, I was'nt being that litterate, but it does attack you

I see you chanched the door ripped off one.

If it is that serious and the door is ripped off......the door including 2 of the fixed point of the seatbelt are moving away from you again......there is only one fixed point left (the clip beside you.)

Thats really good....

I bought both books called "the z car story" which are both shown on this link:

The Z car story

They excellent. 4th and 7th down the list. Very informative.

I don't really want just "someone" coming over to "help" me if I am unconcise.........ridden too many motorbikes to know that unless the person is in emminent danger....leave them alone till the "proper rescuers" come. You are never too far from a "window opening device" anywhere.

What specific age range are we talking about here? Cause if they are too young and dont wriggle, they are too old they don't get out.....and everywhere inbetween they are in their own little seatbelts in the chair/seat itself.

ok, not strangle, I was'nt being that litterate, but it does attack you

It tugs at you slightly I'll agree, but your seatbelt should be off before the door is opened, it is the way things are done....learner driver stuff - the order of things to be done upon entering a car is reversed when exiting......tell you mates to keep their filthy paws off!!

I think the door mounted seat belts are a stupid invention. Its messy and a pain in the neck :D I would much prefer they were on the pillar like proper cars have. :D As for them being any more dangerous than pillar mounted I would think not but some valid points have been made here. Just like what legrath said. I hadnt had the car long and my wife was sat in the passenger seat when my mate opened the door and it scuffed her neck. She wasnt injured but there was a red mark on her neck for a few hours. Which prooves the fact that it could do damage with the right amount of force.

Im just glad they aint lambo doors. I might have to get married again?

Which prooves the fact that it could do damage with the right amount of force.

I repsect both of your opinions, considering I am a novice compaired to you guys, but from my experiences of door mounted and b-pillar mounted I don't see the big fuss.

But I do disagree that it *proves* anything. With the correct amount of force the seatbelt tensioners would lock in place, locking the seatbelt at the length it is and pressing down against the waist of the person sitting in the seat.

Despite what I think what I would focus more on is the fact that as Legrath stated they did move them to the place where *proper* cars have them......with the millions that goes into R&D with Nissan you'd assume they have a good reason for it.

Probably with so many people with small children, people lying around their cars unconcise, people running about the country hammerless and stanleyless (what were they thinking when they left the house that morning - I mean really who doesn;t carry one or the other at least !!) and all the doors littering the doorside that have been ripped off.............I suppose they listened to the customers.....failing that it was just cheaper to put them there rather than reinforce the doors.

Im just glad they aint lambo doors. I might have to get married again?

Now that's definately something we all wouldn't want eh?!

By the way it's a tidy looking HR-V Legrath that you have for sale...all the best with it
