Would you buy a car without a decent forum to back it up?

Have got to admit that I would have to think long and hard, before buying any sports car that didn't have a decent forum to back it up, what about you?

Featured Replies

aaaah now i buy i car cause i want it. but since i have had the z i now look at forums for a bit of inside info on others that im interested in purchasing.

i wanted a z before i EVER used a forum, so was in the process of looking for one when i came across this club. that was in 2004 and im still here!!

recently bought a car for my girl and as a project for me to tinker with and i must admit i used a few forums to find out some info not in the handy haynes.

so to conclude they are useful but not essential in my decision.

Well after much help off here (thanks guys :) ) I aways manage to do all my own jobs now which I wouldn't have attempted before. Probably be a hard decision to make as I couldn't chicken out and start taking the car for work to be done as maybe I wouldn't have any back-up from another forum.

I asked a question on the evo forum once and no replies? but while having a quick browse I knew I was out of place.

i always want a faster and better car than i already have, bought the zed before i found out any forum's, but would consider a performance car on the knowledge of the forum it has, so yes it would maybe influence my decision

i bought my z without a forum. But glad i joined after owning.!

totally agree Mark.

I have always loved Merc 190's espeacilly the cosworth 16v engine versions. Was looking into getting one and it took 48 hours to get an answer to a question i put on their forum.

there is not enough people on there to do the quick question-answer thing that goes on here.

strange because there are tons more 190s on the road than zeds!

Forums are a bit strange like that, you get a more common car than the 300 with what must be a bigger club and you get no answers to questions posted!

prob cos that cossie engine was terrible but no one likes to admit it!! :D the 2.6 6cyl was a much better car!

same here mate, and must say what a car club  :hyper: :nana2: ;)

It would depend on the age of the car in question but I would probably still buy a car, regardless of any related internet forums. With an older car I might do some 'web research first - like what to look for and what the common faults are.

I bought my 300zx before I found this place - luckily I bought wisely and in almost 5 years it has never let me down.

Although this place is a font of knowledge for many things other than the 300zx - when I was buying an SLK I was thankful for the advice given by our very own Merc expert, PaulC. (Cheers Paul ;) )

Richard :D

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

i got into zeds in about 1998-99 and i found this place by a google search looking for somthing else in 2004 and it was a really big relief being able to obtain so much info  so answering the orignial question "yes" before i bought another sporty type car ide try find a forum first and go from there ;)

I don't know the other clubs being mentioned here but perhaps they're not Web-based clubs like ours.

I was a ZClub member but didn't renew a few weeks ago because it's like a morgue on their website compared to ours.......but they're not a web-based club with only about 20% of members being computer users so it's the same small handful of people over and over again on their site.

We are very lucky with our great club.....it's always very busy here and plenty to discuss/argue about, as well as being extremely helpful and friendly.

GREAT CLUB.........GREAT CAR.

Cheers - Dave

Hi,

Web car forums can be useful if you've bought a relatively unusual model of car, but it wouldn't have much relevance as to whether I would buy a particular car or not.

I was a long term member of Z31.com and was a member on this forum back in 2000, when it was still in it's infancy and I had my previous Z32.

You can't beat meeting other owners in the flesh though and that's why I've been a Z Club member since '94.

Whilst some of the advice obtained on car forums can be invaluable, there's also a lot of mis-information and bad advice which gets passed on to new owners too!

Cheerz,

Jez.

The thing is though, yes there is a lof of mininformation given on a forum, but with so many eyes readings it gets corrected quickly by others. However you get just as much ill-informed info given out at Meets, but usually with only a handfull of people listening who are much less likely to speak up for fear of confrontation.

yes 300zx.co.uk is just a car forum, but it also has more events and meets than any other 300zx related UK club.

bought my zed blind, didnt even know what a forum was till i found out from some owners at a show that this place existed, in future though will always have a browse over the OC forums!
