Hi Guys,

I am now officially the proud owner of my first 300zx, ive been a subscribed memeber for a few years now meticulously looking through all the new threads each night reading up about the 300 but only just bought my first one a month ago from auction! Its been in storage at home until ive just moved back, its a Red 1994 UK manual twin turbo. Full nissan service history which was absolute delight, the mileage is slightly high at 124k but it pulls like a train and is completely standard and seems unabused. (i hope!)

Its due a service which im currently gathering the bits and pieces to undertake, it suffers from the erratic idling problem people have experienced however ive cleaned the throttle bodies but need to have a play with the AAC unit which im hoping will cure it.

My plan was to mod it however im loving it in standard form and think its best to get used to the power for a few months at least before i touch the engine, however reliability is my main issue and it seems like i may have a boost leak as i can hear slight hissin in the engine bay, does anyone recommend anywhere reaosnable to get a replacement hose set for my most critical hoses that are prone to splitting?

Finally to say thanks for this site, ive used it for several years now and its good to see people helping out eachother and sharing information, it makes all the difference.

Also i live in Peterborough and i expect a lot of you are coming up or down to JAE! dont bottle it the weathers not that bad just a bit cloudy, the odd drizzle is expected but theyve been coming in short bursts all week so go for it! nothing could be worse than the tropical rainstorm last year! ha.

cheers guys.

Kesh

p.s. does anyone recommend some reasonable insurers for young drivers (21), ive tried skyline who were reasonable just need to do a little better.

hello and welcome (even though you have been around for a while ;) )

Insurance - loads out there - just keep hunting... what have you been quoted so far?

a big 'belated' welcome to the club and congrats on your new purchase :)

there are plenty of places available for the replacement of your hoses but it depends what you want for it... for any uprated parts you require you have dta motorsport/smithys-place... if you want standard but new and genuine nissan parts mike feeney at mjp eastern autos is your man... and if your looking for a second hand good set andyz@supercarparts will be able to sort you.

all availble through the traders section of the forum. dont forget, it might be worth sticking up a wanted thread in the approriate section as there are generally always lots of people breaking zeds or selling bits.

alternatively you have the likes of the z centre in the uk and z1 motorsports over the pond...

i know this sounds mental but i just turned 20 and got 300zx TT and my best quote was The post office!!NO sh** the post office were my best quote!Im paying 1600quid for the year with 3points n 1yr NCB! Give em a try!!

Hope this helpss

cheers for the quick responses guys! i was orginally going to be an added driver on my parents name but i think for my own benefit i might pay the extra and get it on my own name now so i can start earning NCB.

skyline insurance advised me it would be easier to get a quote in 3rd party fire and theft for first year and then change to fully comp after (£1200), altho its a big risk im thinkin it might be worth it. im going to be driving it mainly this summer and only when dry so its goin to get minimal use over winter. which makes me think maybe temporary insurance maybe more worth it, insuring it for the next 3 months then taking it over the road, or i could pay for the whole year and then cancel it when i want to to take it off the road in the winter and get a rebate on my remaining insurance?

had a little surprise the other week when i was cleaning the car, i noticed there was a false kick panel on the passenger side foot rest, i took the carpet up and unscrewed the plywood panel to find the ecu had been relocated along with another little box attached to it, i found out the guys number who owned the car for the last 9years from the history and gave him a call, he didnt even realise it was there! after having another look i realised its an aftermarket traction control unit fitted! the button still works when u click it and it lights up, not used for years! its not a race logic one but a company called bungy i think. i will double check, ne1 kno how to post pictures?

anyone going jae tomorrow? gunna pop down then definately. cheers joel for pointing me in the right direction, will enquire next week.

Thanks bud for the post office thing bud, im only 19 so thought id do a quote on it and came out 1500 fully comp for a tt!!! Ideal :D

under the passenger footwell and under the plywood kickpanel is the oem place for the ecu... along with other control units... take a picture and post it up, then some1 will be able to confirm for sure :)

as for the insurance thing... according to the adverts, direct line are offering no claims discounts to named drivers of policies... if this is the case then it would be worth becoming a named driver, it will save you some serious money and put your mind at ease. tpft could see you with nothing god forbid and if you cancel half way through a year, you wont get any ncb so youll have to start again a year from fresh! check out direct line and see how genuine it is :)

try tesco, or you could subscribe and then gain acces to the private forums and get the number for adrian flux insurance, there is a special number for club insurance

best to sort insurance out first bud, always best to get qoutes before you buy a grp 20 insurance vehicle

greg

ps welcome aboard ;)

yea im payin 1600 aswell with 7 points and no NCB :headvswal

try tesco, or you could subscribe and then gain acces to the private forums and get the number for adrian flux insurance, there is a special number for club insurance

Flux couldnt beat tesco on mine even with club discount ,could be my age though,(im an old b**t**d)

Bell were the best for me £300 fully comp. It will be even cheaper in a months time as im going to put it on a classic car policy as it is a uk spec :hyper:

Congratulations on the Zed - good to see another in Cambs.

Insurance - try bell direct, a-plan (or is it a-quote?), adrian flux, houghtons.... do a search.

cheers guys for all the advice, no one would touch me for under £1600, a guy at sky insurance called luke sorted me right out.was a big fan of 300zx's and was at JAE this year. £1200 on my own name, so this is my first policy taken out so i can start earning some well needed no claims! took her out today for a spin and i loved every minute of it! couldnt push her too hard tho because i wanna give her a full service first. im giving her a clean tomorrow so ill post some pics, also someone might be able to shed some light on the traction control unit in the front i found.

thanks again.
