I thought the general consensus on this was the prop shaft bearing

I might be wrong.. Hope it's not too expensive for you mate.

It could be something simple like wheel balancing which makes vibration come and go at different speeds. If it was the propshaft bearing wouldn't it vibrate all the time ? Try a search on prop bearings.

Yep! Central bearing, got the same on mine! just changed it as well, the non standard one it replaced was actually smoother!

It could be the UJs on your prop. Remove the prop and check on the centre bearing. If the UJs are notchy (stiff) then you'll get the vibes you are talking about. If they are notchy, there is a simple remedy to fix them...

Good luck

Prop centre bearing is a really common failure.

You'll get one from MJP in the traders section or Nissan main stealers.

Could you expand on the remedy please :)

The UJs are 2 C sections joined at 90 degrees by a cross bearing (sorry about the non-technical description). If the UJ is notchy or stiff take a very heavy hammer to the leading edge of the C and belt it inwards untill the stiffness dissapears - a couple or 4 belts normally does it. Do this to each UJ.

I had what I was convinced was centre bearing failure but on removal of the prop and bearing, the bearing was ok but the UJs were very stiff. Having previously fitted a steering UJ, I knew that if you widen the C of the UJ, it becomes very stiff - therefore closing up of the C would loosen the UJs - and it does.

Put it all back on and it's like new...

can also be the gearbox mounting thats another cause and a common fault and often mistaken for prop centre bearing

...and prop bearing bolt washers/spacers incorrectly fitted , and prop out of balance from being disconnected and not put back the same way (have to unbolt and turn 180 degrees).

Thanks again guys, it was recently disconnected so i might try turning it 180 degrees 1st see if that helps but thanks for all your help i will post up my progress.
