If they are tiny little black things that look long and thin, then we call them thunder flies (or bugs) where I am.

look like horse flies .....

Couldnt even open my mouth without one trying to get in!!

see things like that are pointless - why the fook do they exist! They serve no purpose but to irritate the shit out of human beings!

If you want to be theological about it, what purpose do human beings serve?? ;)

Been predominately dry here in Lincolnshire all day as well.

according to the met office summer 2008 will be on a tuesday

wasn't going anyway but yeah the weather is shite, was disturbing my BTCC viewing this afternoon when the picture was breaking up on the telly :/

I called in at Billing this morning on the way to Grafham water meet.

All meadows were bone dry over 95% of their area. Lots of ordinary people camping and caravanning there as usual.

A few guys from the Suzuki club and another small club had camped over without any problems.

It was dry all day today at Grafham just down the road from Billing until after we left at 3.30PM.

So to answer your question Steve I personally was sorry we didnt go ahead with the meet at Billing cos it would have all been OK.

And there is nothing in the rule book on weather to say that whatever other weekend we choose wont be a lot worse than this one.

1996 IIRC.

It was the first time I went although my own 280Zx Fairlady was not ready in time.

It was awful. Cars, people and everything else was covered in mud. Just dropping down off the perimeter road onto a meadow meant that you would need several people to help push you out at he very minimum.Truly a weekend not to be repeated ... EVER.

Hi,

The weather has been fine here for the last week, there was some rain this morning and on friday, but 20miles down the road it has been dry on both days.

Have had the targa roof off a couple of days this past week too!

Jez.

Indeed it was not a weekend that anyone would have wanted to repeat

And had we had The Event at Billing this weekend IT WOULD NOT have been repeated. Fact.

I was down in Kent at Brands Hatch today watching the GT car chamionship etc and it was really hot and blue skies.

Driving home up the M1 with the roof off getting my head burnt until we got near Leicester and it was torrential rain all the way back to Leeds :(

If that had hit Billing only a few miles further south it would have been a disaster.

Not really, because no-one was there! ;)

The British weather is unpredictable, to the point where the next day forecast is often inaccurate, even though it's spot on 5 miles down the road! Making predictions days in advance is always going to be difficult and prone to being totally wrong...

Yes but after about 2 weeks of solid rain and severe flooding all over the country I can see why they decided to cancel with the long range forecast was looking the same.

I'm sure it will be a great event in September or whenever it happens :)

Well I must confess, yes it's a crap summer and THIS weekend I would have happily spent at Billing even if it was overun in cow shit, compared to the 2 1/2 days i've just spent in the UK, bored senseless, getting wound up, spending a fortune for nowt and getting soaking wet! I really could have just stayed at home and been better off :D

smithy

had aBBQ today. Looked awfull about 12ish but the clouds moved away for the rest of the day till about 8 then it began to rain.

Indeed it was not a weekend that anyone would have wanted to repeat

But with eight days to go it was decide by the organisers of the event from the Z club, in view of a report about the state of the fields at that particle time from a resident at Billing, and from the inferance of your post about how bad it was in 1996 would seem to read that you agreed with the decision

The decision was not taken lightly and after looking at the local weather for cast for the nine days building up to the 13th it forecast rain of some sort for seven of those days that and with visiters due from europe and all over the UK it was decide to give as much notice as possible

Although this decision was taken by the Z Club after being told by Billing that the best thing to do was ring them on the state of the fields on the 12th of July to find out wether the the fields were usable and it was felt that was totaly unaceptable with ONE DAY to go

The decision was further justified when the Toyota Enthusiats Club posted up on various forums that on the 9th of July that Billing had officialy contacted them telling them that the fields that they were using were unsuitable for use and they cancelled

Also the midlands had a severe Weather warning on the Tuesday the 10th

It must be great to be able after the event to change your view point and say things should go ahead when you have no responcibility for a decision either way and also to try to protect the funds of a club

IF IT HAD GONE AHEAD AND THE WEATHER HAPPENED AS THEY FORCAST WHO WOULD HAVE GOT THE BLAME

I hope that As the Z club lost the deposit of £168 opposed to the loss off the full £822 for the marque alone that this Club was able to cancell the bucking Bronco etc that was also going to cost over £800

Thread closed!!

I only started this thread to say what a shit summer we are having and was pleased I wasn't at Billing last weekend.

Wasn't wanting to open yet another pointless thread about whether it should have been cancelled or not.

Decision was made two weeks ago...can we please move on.
