Just failed MOT….need help

I have just taken the car for its first MOT. Apart from lots of damage to exhaust and chassis due to bottoming out all was fine except the two small metal brake pipes on the rear which join the flexible pipe to the caliper on both sides which apparently are badly corroded. I have just given Nissan a ring and have been told that these pipes are not available as a part and are usually made up to order. I asked them if they could make me up a pair and was told that I would need to bring the car in…etc…etc….big money.

I know a lot of you have done brake upgrades and I am hoping that someone still has these pipes to sell. Or is any one in a position to make me up a pair.

I have 14 days to get this sorted so any help would be very welcome.

Thanks

Steve

Steve,

Any decent motor engineer will be able to make you up some of these. They often use copper now which doesn't rust. I know of a guy in Leaden Roding who may be able to help, but there are bound to be some closer to you.

(Was it you I saw in Harlow the other last evening and also driving through High Roding a couple of weeks back ?)

Yeah I had some similar ones made by a local motor factors for £4 each. Best take them with you though.

Steve I had a pair made up for my Skyline brakes, cost me a massive £5 for the pair wink.gif.

Hi Andy

Could well have been me you saw, I’m often driving around the area. I could get new pipes made up but don’t really have the time to take the car off the road at the moment. I was hoping just to fit replacements (10 minuet job)but if I have no luck thats what I will have to do.

By the way the gearbox has been great, no problems at all.

They should be able to make them while you wait. It's a 5 minute job to make and as long as it takes to fit + brake bleeding.

Steve

I have a spare set of braided ones if you want them give me a ring on 07780 700381

Thanks John but I'm only after the small metal pipe.

ANY garage competent of doing an MOT should be competent at making up these brake lines - there is nothing special about them at all wink.gif Standard fitments and standard materials... In other words can the garage who did the MOT not make them up and fit them for you???
