I'm about £400 a month better off. Get at least £150 a month back of which that covers ALL my fuel useage, including personal (not Z). Plus the £300 I get instead of the car, then there's £50 tax...so yeah, I guess around £500 a month better off. Doesn't feel like it though as it all goes. :(

Tha sucks!!

My house mate has just been propmoted, he has to hand back his year old audi A3 in exchange for a VW 7 seater diesal people carier hahahahahaha, hes 26!!!!

and most of all its reliable
Who told you that? the Renault Salesman? :p

Mike

I hope you do plenty of miles because the 150 brake renault diesel has the same particulate filter probs as i had with my 150 diesel zafira, kept blocking up and going into "limp mode".

Happened to ours 5 times in 4 months so had to sell the car as we lost all faith in it,but we were not driving the car probably according to the vauxhall chaps!!! had to drive hard on a m/way or an A road once a week for 15mins!!!!

So just ordered brand new galaxy ghia being delivered in oct so fingers crossed [no particulate filter on these models]

I'm guessing the combination of saving the tax, plus the extra net pay from his car allowance in lieu of the car.

I do the same thing - I get a car as part of my salary package but I don't do any business travel. Since I don't want to drive anything that my compay would buy me, I chose the cash allowance instead. That way I can drive what I prefer!

Plus I still get a fuel card to fill up any of my own cars - including the ZX :p . OK so the cost of the fuel used goes on my P11d and I have to pay tax on the benefit, but I'm still only paying for 40% of my total petrol ;)

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

No i get an extra £5k a year in my wages to cover a car or i get £5k a year to go towards a car with the lease company, basically we can get what ever we want whether its a porsche or corsa :) but obviously you pay anything over £5k a year if you go over your budget but you also get anything back extra in your wages that you dont spend :)

Obviously the £5k is fully taxed but with the tax i will save and i have worked out i can run my new car on about 7-8 pence per mile and i get 40 pence  so i should do ok LOL

Be a shame as ive always had new cars every year or two but this time its a several year old car but hey ive a mortgage the size of thrid world debt so i need all the money i can get :p

im in the wrong job!

The figure Mike's quoting is for the allowance and the tax he doesn't pay. For instance, my old company car, I was only taxed on 17% of the car's value or something like that. My tax per month was only about £60 extra than what I'd normally pay without CC. But you pay tax on your company car allowance too, but it's not much I don't think.

aye i do alright

BUT

changes are on the very close horizon

the business announced yesterday that there going from 3 regional mangers to 1, from 3 regional sales managers to 0, 22 general managers to 10 and the sales force is being split into new business and account managers AND possibly reduded in size :(

so ive just blown all my savings on a car for work only to find out that my job (again) is under threat, dont get me wrong i would be suprised due to the area i cover if theres anyone else that would even want my area but eyyou never know whats around the corner!!!

happy days LOL

hope your alright bud

....................... But you pay tax on your company car allowance too, but it's not much I don't think.

On a car allowance of £5k p/a you would pay £2k in tax at 40%. It just gets added to you salary as cash ;) So whilst the net pay is only £3k p/a you are also saving the company car tax; which on, say, a VW Passat TDI is about £1200 p/a assuming 40% tax.

However if you drive for business you can reduce the tax burden by of-setting the cost of business journeys at 40p per mile for the first 10k miles and 25p per mile thereafter. Assuming you do 10k miles per annum, the tax reduction is £1600 (10k x 0.4 at 40%).

I receive £550 per month car allowance and just pay PAYE on it with the rest of my wages - oh and that 1% National Insurance :nono: Damn government, scrapping the maximum NI threshhold.......

Richard :D
