make sure that qoute is for a jap import if you are going to get an import as insurance companies have 2 different price bands. a jap import classified as a fairladyz WILL be more to insure than a uk spec classed as a 300zx twin turbo. i would hazzard a guess its for a uk spec that you have been quoted on and i would say that a jap imort to add approx 200-400 more. imo.

autos and manuals are apparantly meant to be similar to 60, after that the manual is slightly quicker to top end

0.60 somwhere in the region of 5.5 and 6.0 seconds. Ive timed my auto T about 5.8 to 5.9 so theres your performance.

As for top end, UK's are supposed to be limited to 155, Japs 112. But delimited in good shape you can expect 160 to 170.

You are not going to embaress a standard scooby in a standard zed, until you get on the naughty side of 120 i would say.

So his having evidently had work done to it to get 300bhp out of it is going to be even more of a challange.

problem with a scooby is... the gearing! a stock z will anhialate a 300hp scooby past a ton!

i agree...

but talking about beating a 300hp scooby on the road where the chances of getting into those kind of power bands are very slim... i wouldnt fancy my chances.

i have a stock facelift classic wrx which is between 215 and 245hp depending on how lucky the car was @ build and its definately faster to 60 than my tt auto...

but yes as said... get past 60 and the zed peaks and keeps pulling and pulling whereas the scooby struggles and puffs like dot cotton in a marathon!

Its not just about performance, its the looks of the zed too its a far more impressive looking motor and its road presence far exceeds that of the scooby with just its rarity just ask any of the guys on here.

If you do decide to buy a zed, do yourself a favor and buy one from a club member, chances are its been looked after and you will know the history of the car (most important) when buying a performance car. But having said that gaining a few more HP from a stock motor can easily be gained for a few hundred quid with exhaust and induction kit, and chances are its already been done if you bought a fello members car.

Also I would just like to stress these cars can be a bit of a handfull and can turn round and bite you in the arse at the wrong time if not handled correctly at the right time, just ask some of the members who have been unfortunate, just a warning.

If you intend to become a serious zed owner you will be doing yourself a huge favor and becoming a subscribed member it will be the best 20 quid you will ever spend and you will get full benifit of the club and the Traders.

Personally i would go for a UK manual car

precisely bud thats my point, scoobys and evo's always nail you to about 60-70, but ask legrath we pissed on a scooby whilst david was hanging on for dear life LMAO

sxcooby, zed, scooby, zed, scooby, zed??

it could be a 600bhp scooby and id still pick my 300bhp zed over it any day!! the zed will have ten years on most scoobies and will still out live them all, not to mention far superior looks and road presence!!

If you got a quote off money supernmarket it will be UK spec.

infact i would sooner push my nissan than drive a subaru!

Welcome to the nut house buddy.

Can only agree with coments above. If you are going to get one take your time and get a decent one. Don't go for the first one you see unless it is mint with some sort of service record. You could perhaps try to persuade one of the members in your area to go a long with you to have a look.

Have a look at this

and good luck with it.

i got wasted by an imprezza sti the other day, my car is running like shite at the mo though, still dont think i would have caught it, the foker was shoting flames out the exhaust's lol

maybe time to sell mine and go for that evo 7

autos and manuals are apparantly meant to be similar to 60, after that the manual is slightly quicker to top end..........................

Performance is pretty similar, although manuals feel faster.

General feeling though is that the manual is quicker 0-60 but auto is quicker 0-100 (and obviously 60-100 plus ;) ). Something to do with the number of gearchanges; 0-100 in a manual needs 2 changes but at higher speeds the auto box can change quicker than the average ZX owner if it is working properly.

J-spec auto boxes will fry if they haven't been fitted with an upgraded oil cooler.

Personally if I just wanted a 0-60 car I'd pick a Scooby and tune it; the ZX is no slouch though with a stock 0-60 time of 5.4 - 5.8 ish. The ZX is a great GT car, fast, comfortable and with great road presence. Plus for 40-100mph A-road overtaking it's among the best. The ZX is more "the whole package" than a scooby.

Richard

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

1200 insurance at 20? wtf, you must have 3 years NCB right?

And seriously, scoobs are potent, no chance against one in a zed. Even in a straight line modded ones are very quick. A mate has one pushing a bit over 300bhp and the acceleration is so brutal it feels like you will be pushed into the back lol.

Maybe you will beat one at high speed but by the time you have done it you could also have said goodbye to your license.

you having a laugh or what  have you passed your test yet clarkey ;) either that or you have not taken your car over 60

iv raced against evo's and scoobs all acceleration and weak bottom ends!

what ever you do, do not buy a car with the intention of "showing up" your mate, stuff what he thinks, it your thousands of ounds at the end of the day, forget about him, put the 2 side by side and decide what you like yourself and not what would make any one else green imho!!

Dont buy a scooby, there soooooooo common, yeah there good cars, but there not as good as the 300 plus most owners of scoobys automatically become to$$ers. And you can only get them in blue with gold wheels and the only mods is to put the rally stickers on them.

The 300 is a proper looking sports car too. The scoobys just a saloon.

as above, leave the scoobies be get yourself a nice zed, a few easy mods, and goodbye scoobie.

I was thinking that :nono:

I really can't see you getting insured for that kind of money at your age, even if you have managed 3 years no claims

rofl :)

Sound advice.

From a line start my zed was slower of the line than the mates scooby, its about 320 horses. from a 20mph rolling start he was about 3-4 car lengths behing me. i've only got a few mods too.

i'd pick zed any day.

i will have a word today

there are loads of yung uns in subarus lol round here lol, infact more yung uns in Imprezzas than Saxos, either they are that daft to impress they will spend half a years wage on insurance or prices round here are cheap!!

Welcome to the wonderful world of classic japanese sports cars. I have nothing more to add to the good advice that has already been given.

EXCEPT THIS:

Be bloody careful mate. You are talking about beating your mates in a race in a car that really needs to be treated with some respect or you will end up dead. We have seen too many people on here that have lost control and ended up in a ditch or wrapped around a tree because they thought they could handle the power with ease. I am not saying you are incapable just be careful we know these cars and you dont yet.
