I must be on something this morning, so many q's! :hyper:

I want to ask the stages of modification on a Jap spec TT;

1. Boost Controller

2. Free Flowing Exhaust

3. Induction / Air Cleaner

4. ECU Remap

5. Intercooler?

6. Radiator?

7. Stronger Clutch?

8. Larger Injectors? What size?

9. Fuel Pump

10. Bigger Turbos / Single Turbo

Can someone more learned add to the list??

Featured Replies

Single turbo isn't really an option and the fuel pump is good for 600bhp+ so you won't be needing one, but other than that you're not far off.

BRAKES!!!!!!!!! Should be at the top of the list. No good upping the power without uprating the brakes. At least to 350Z rotors and caliper bracket.

Thanks guys.

What boost level can be flowed with the above spec, where will the stock turbo'smax out. At what power.

Also, what high power are others running?? :duffer:

Even on a standard car the brakes are not good enough.

they are when they actually work after a rebuild!! ;)

I have been told with with a full fluid flush, rebuilt calipers new disks and pads, they are actually pretty good.

Thanks guys.

general consensus is that 14.5psi is the safe limit on standards. some push 15/16 or even 17 but its a matter of how lucky you feel, or whether you want your engine to explode so youve got an excuse to rebuild :p

to safely push 17/18 you need (apart from the basics like intake/zorst/chip/etc). larger injectors, aftermarket intercoolers, aftermarket or rebuilt turbos. theres also the argument of whether 18-year-old pistons (which are still very strong) can take the extra power. Forged pistons are a recommendation if you want reliable power.

Definitely suspension!

Ref to injectors, what size are stock ones and what is the recommended upgrade size?

Stock 370cc/min, 555s most common upgrade, enough for 550rwhp :)

Andy what power are the standard turbo's and injectors good for?

By the way I got soughted and the car is mot'd. Im putting a thread up for the club on the cheapest insurance you could ever think off i have just got mine fully comp for less than 190 quid a year lol

Good Tyres is the first and most dramatic upgrade to handling and stopping and the upgrade most people miss.

They don't build a race car and then look for tyres to make their set up work. They start with the tyres and work up from there. Then Brakes, Suspension, making sure everything mechanically is sound, that the rad and coolers arn't blocked or holed and that the cam belt, oil and water pump have bean changed at the recomended the sixty thousand mile or 5 year intervals.

Then when you turn up the wick you've less chance of serious failure. Which quite often means £3K + repairs.

Get it right before you go steaming in for more boost and fuel. Remeber all these mods have to be declared to your insurer or your insurance is null and void.

My recomendation for Tyres is Bridgestone S02's or Mitchelin Pilot Sports. Perreli Rosso's are OK, but most of the rest are just make weights or Grade A ditch finders

I have been told with with a full fluid flush, rebuilt calipers new disks and pads, they are actually pretty good.

They will still fade on the track!

1. Brakes

2. Suspension

3. Engine Cooling

Then start upping the power.

Oh, and 17psi can be fine if you have the fuelling to match...

i had mitch pilot's on my last zed and the difference in handling was amazing.

if its an auto you must change the autobox cooler for a bigger one. Common mod is an upgraded engine oil cooler, then flush the original engine oil cooler out and re-plumb this as the autobox cooler.
