Rather than dialing 0870 or 0845 numbers go to http://www.saynoto0870.com If you enter the phone number it will give you the normal direct no. i.e 0208...

I use it all the time as I'm a tight ar*e.

I tried that site to call Sky ( Broadband ) , but their 020 type numbers just produced a taped message saying they were not available " on this number " . :headvswal

Scheming , moneygrabbing b*stards , eh ?

I found that aswel but if you try another number and ask to be transferred.

I dont know about 0870 but 0845 is local rate call....ie cheaper than Regular number

0870 or the 0845 numbers are usually national rate, which to a normal number i.e. depending on your service provider is relitively cheap, but these companies pull the wool over your eyes and it is going to be more expensive, round about the 10p per minute mark. thats not much I hear you cry. Indeed it isnt, but just remember it when you have been on hold waiting for some div to pic up the phone for 20 minutes!!!!!

  You the man!!.

Just tried it for my RBS business account and it works fine. Those 0870/0845 numbers cost me about £20 a month.

I owe you several :duffer:

been using that site for years...:D

its fair to say most home phone contracts today have free local or national non-geographic calls 01/020/etc so dialling 0870 / 0845 is a waste of money when if you can find the non-geographic you can call them for free...govt helplines are the worst see inland rev or DVLA etc

Calls to an 0870 number from a standard BT landline line will cost the caller:

6.73p (Daytime)

1.26p (Evening)

0.85p (Weekend)

The provider can make 2-3p per minute profit off the incoming call

3.36p (Daytime)

0.85p (Evening)

0.85p (Weekend)

This is equivalent of calling a local number.

All prices are per minute excluding VAT

This scheme only kicks in if the call volume to this particular 0845/0870 number is higher than 3 million minutes per billing period. The "cash back" payment is far lower (as in 0.05p) if call volumes are lower.

Having said that, I spend a lot of money every month phoning my suppliers 0845/0870 numbers so will give that website a go!

Cheers,

Dan

not true! For 0845 there will be an agreed call volume before cash back (as the caller is only billed at local rate), but 0870 will give you at least 1.5 p/min - more if you get a good deal... I know from having set them up - I will go to hell!

i got an 0870 for free off some telcom company ages ago...basically if my total 0870 callers dont hit a certain level i dont get anything...and to date guess what i've had nothing...still its useful as i give it to all the banks and govt dept's as my contact number...mud in the eye so to speak :D
